Usually 2-3 months. Right now July appicants are starting to get their AORs. Processing takes up to 12 months for most applications. There has been some cases where it only took 4 to 6 months.

Just wait and keep waiting. If you get to 4 months, you can try to call CIC.

Hey everyone, Im about to start the whole process of sponsoring my common law spouse to Canada. I am a Canadian citizen and I have been living in Nicaragua for the last 7 years. We were pretty comfortable with our life here but due to the recent political conflict we have decided that starting our family would be best in Canada.

I have 2 questions:

  • I know some of the processing time is affected by the country the PA is from, I suspect not many people from here are applying for this type of thing. Would the processing time be less?
  • Due to instability in the country we were thinking of sending his passport with our application, unfortunately we can't guarantee that in the coming months we will have a way to do so since things are sort of hectic here. Is that a good idea or would that be seen badly?
We are just trying to avoid anything that could delay the process and being here we are kind of just going day by day.

Thanks and good luck to all.

Hi

1. Unfortunately not. Your app will be processed in Mexico City, which is an extremely busy VO that handles apps from around a dozen countries. Also, IRCC does security/background checks that require information from the applicant's country, so there may be delays depending on the response time of Nicaragua.

2. Don't send his passport upfront. The app has to go to Canada first and they don't have anything to do with the passport. The app is forwarded on to the local VO after sponsor approval, who requests the passport at the end of the process. Sending the passport upfront will likely result in it just being mailed back to you. It also increases the risk of it being lost.
