it depends on whether you applied from within canada (inland) or from outside of canada (outland). for inland, it takes 2+ years and the file stays in canada. for outland it depends on the visa office. the file is usually sent to the country of citizenship of the applicant unless the applicant has legal, current temporary residence of another country for 12+ months. you will need to find a thread specific to your visa office to see what the current timeline is. the times posted for outland online are not accurate and are not averages, and they don't represent what applicants actually face. Also, it's impossible for you to know there are "only 30 applicants" from your country. It's important to remember this forum represents a very small percentage of applicants cic sees. I can guarantee you, there are way more than 30 applicants seeking pr from any country.

this thread is specific to inland applications, so if you are an outland applicant, it's really not appropriate to post your question here. you are better off posting your questions in the outland thread for your visa office or on the general board.

Hi thank you for the respond. I am thinking to apply inland that's why I asked in here. You are saying outland applications sent to the country of citizenship of the applicant unless the applicant has legal, current temporary residence of another country for 12+ months.

In my case I have been living in BC, Canada for 5 years I am on post graduation work permit.
1)If I apply outland my application will be processed in my home country for sure? I am in Vanciouver bc, living with my sponsor for 1 year , have been together for almost 3 years. I don't really want to fly 20 hours for an interview to my hometown that's the only hesitation I have in outland vs inland.
2) who goes to the interview? the sponsor or person who is being sponsored? or both?

Hey Karim,

I applied OWP for my wife online. She got approval email on April 15th. It was mentioned that she will receive work permit in mail within 4 -6 weeks of time.

that's great but you applied for inland spousal as well online? I thought you had to send that in mail and no online option was available?

I'm in the same boat as you two, our application arrived Feb 20th and I haven't heard anything so far. Judging from the Inland application document (they won't let me post links so patch this up yourself: https : / / docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Yn3BFzI4q4xAy4EW3pG4CgQz9o3EzF5b18_tcSJwBhA/edit#gid=1992004750) something should come in these days... But we also might have made a mistake by forgetting "N/A" in one form, so I'm just hoping to hear back at all at this moment. :-\

Are you waiting to here if the application was received or for the open work permit part? I know my application was sent in 3rd February and as I sent it recorded delivery it was received 5th February. They are currently processing open work permit applications for Work Permit Extensions (I already had a 1 year work permit) from 12th January 2016 on the Government of Canada website.

If you enter that it is a work permit extension (new employer) it will show what date they are up to. How accurate it is I am unsure of and although it says that it is updated weekly it is not. Last update was yesterday where the date changed to say it had been updated 15th April. Obviously some issue there but either way I hold out hope that I will hear something in the next 4 weeks regarding my work permit.

Just found out this morning that my AOR was send out on 13th April. Still not received anything in the post regarding it but I now have a UCI number to check on the status of my application. Fingers crossed the OWP comes soon
