thanks browning so from 11th May when it arrived with CIC it has taken 107 days to be approved, now its just a matter of waiting for it in the mail... such good timing with the postal strike lol!browning911 said:Yes! Congrats Ringland!
It took us 110 days and it arrived the week after we saw it in GC Key. Don't worry.Ringlands said:thanks browning so from 11th May when it arrived with CIC it has taken 107 days to be approved, now its just a matter of waiting for it in the mail... such good timing with the postal strike lol!
.. that puts it stuck in the mail system if they walk off the job monday ..browning911 said:It took us 110 days and it arrived the week after we saw it in GC Key. Don't worry.
very true!profiler said:.. that puts it stuck in the mail system if they walk off the job monday ..
But there is a pdf stating it's been approved. You could say to a prospective employer that the CPC work stoppage has held up your paper copy in the mail. They would likely accept that. They may ask to see it when it finally comes in, but they likely wouldn't slow up your work application as a result..
I think they need the original. When my wife got her SIN, they took the OWP and put it under their little light to see if the paper had the security features embedded.Ringlands said:very true!
browning - do you know if you can get SIN number with that PDF or do you need the paper version to take into a Service Canada? thanks
thank you saved me an eager trip!profiler said:I think they need the original. When my wife got her SIN, they took the OWP and put it under their little light to see if the paper had the security features embedded.
Sorry for answering for Browning -- I knew this one
Sure thing. You should wait until monday to see if there is a CPC work stoppage. If so, try contacting ServiceCanada to ask if, due to the stoppage, you could print and bring in the PDF copy CIC supplied you through myCIC. They may accept that. I think they can verify if the paperwork is legit or not by calling CIC anyway.Ringlands said:thank you saved me an eager trip!
My wife has OWP, my question: can she get the SIN using only OWP?profiler said:I think they need the original. When my wife got her SIN, they took the OWP and put it under their little light to see if the paper had the security features embedded.

Ya, I understand that part. I just didn't submit my medical yet, and according to CIC website that disqualifies me from working in some medical and educational fields. However, my work permit says nothing about it, so I'm free and clear!?profiler said:Open Work Permit is just that. You can work in whatever industry.
I think that would be up to the employer. Just be upfront with them about it. Realistically speaking: if you did have something like TB (or the other communicable diseases they screen for), you've already shared it with Canadian society.mnimmigrant2016 said:Ya, I understand that part. i haven't submitted medical either yet. havent got the OWP in the mail yet so dont know if there will be a clause stating about the health care work but not sure to what extreme they mean that for example could you be a receptionist in a health place or is it if you're a 'hands on' person like a nurse? dont think it would be as harsh to not let you work with food etc..?mnimmigrant2016 said:Ya, I understand that part.
