Hi! This is my first time posting and have tried my best to search for the answer I'm looking for in other posts but could not manage to find it so forgive me!

I recently got married in JAPAN and would like to sponsor my wife to CANADA. I am a PR of Canada but have been living in Japan for close to a year now. My question is:

-Can I sponsor/apply for the sponsorship and my wife's immigration while I (Permanent resident not Citizen) reside here in Japan?

I am so confused because some people told me yes and some say no. I've phoned and emailed CIC and all they tell me to do is look on the website. I don't know if I read the CIC site thoroughly or not but I didn't see anything that states ' Yes a PR can sponsor/apply from outside Canada'. I know there is a part that says ' Applications from outside Canada' and that I need to provide proof of my residency in Canada of the time the application is processed. I'll mention again that I keep hearing completely different answers from people so am just totally confused! ::)

I would really appreciate any help I can get! Thank you! :D

NO.....a PR cannot sponsor a spouse without living in Canada. The spouse can reside outside of Canada but not the sponsor.

Sorry, you will have to return to Canada and set up home and work here to sponsor her.

Only a Canadian Citizen can sponsor whilst not living in Canada but even then they must show that they intend to return to Canada to live for the sponsorship to be successful.

Since you've been receiving conflicting replies - I thought I'd back up what angelbrat has told you.

PRs cannot sponsor from outside of Canada. You must be living in Canada to sponsor and remain in Canada while the file is being processed.

PR's cannot sponsor someone if they live outside of Canada and as a PR you must live in canada for at least 2 years within the 5 years of permanent residency in order to keep your PR. Good luck

Thanks so much guys! Just for the record where do you guys get this information? Was it on the CIC website and or the sponsorship/application forms?

i am also in Japan. If you are PR holder yo need to be in Canada. If you are citizen you can sponsor living in Japan.

Read this it will make you clear every thing.

I am being sponsored by my Canadian wife and Singapore has started processing our application from September 23rd.

They send me a letter on december 2nd to submitt my PR fees and to complete IMM008 Schedule-1 Question 11 as we provided time gaps in filling that Background question. In addition with that Missisauga sent a letter to my Wife in Canada asking for my PR fees on December 3rd.

Although we submitted our PR fees on November 24th and when I called CIC call center then they said Missisauga got my Receipt on december 7th and on the same day they sent a Receipt to Singapore.

And now my question is in what stage we are in now?
How long it might take to get my PPR/

Thank you
