Spousal Sponsorship from EIC and new work permit

Hi,

I have a few questions regarding the subject of this thread and would much appreciate any advice or help available!

So about my situation, I am currently in Quebec, on a EIC visa which expires at the end of April 2019. I am married to a Canadian citizen and I am applying for a spousal sponsorship and with this an open work permit. I currently have a job here. For various reasons I am late in making the application but hope to send it off in the next week.

So the questions I have:

1. If I expect my new open work permit to arrive in June-ish, do I need to stop working when my EIC expires?

2. Do I need to apply to change my status to a visitor for the interim period between the EIC and OWP? Or is having applied for PR and an OWP enough?

3. Regarding the OWP form 5710 do I apply for a "work permit with the same employer" or select "apply for a work permit for the first time or with a new employer"?

4. Finally, I was hoping to visit my family in the UK over the summer. Is this a bad idea to leave whilst the situation with the OWP is up in the air? (I suspect yes but confirmation would be greatly appreciated).

Thanks in advance for any help your able to give! All the best!

1. OWP submitted with inland sponsorship usually approved within 4 months......if your current work permit expires before OWP is approved you may have to stop until OWP approved.

2. apply for extension to remain in status as a safe in case your inland sponsorship + OWP is returned for whatever reason and needs be re-submitted......note: inland sponsorship will be processed regardless of status, however, the OWP included in the sponsorship application will not be approved if the applicant is out-of-status.

3. select "apply for a work permit for the first time or with a new employer"

1. Yes, you need to stop working after your IEC permit expires until you get the new OWP.

2. You don't have to. Many people do apply for a visitor extension as a back-up in case the PR and/or OWP app is returned.

3. New employer.

4. If you plan to leave during the process, you are advised to apply outland. This is because if you are refused re-entry when coming back to Canada, an inland app is considered abandoned. The risk of refusal is very small but it is there.
