Hello I posted here a while ago and I’m almost ready to send the application, I am a Canadian citizen that lives in Quebec but I now moved to Ontario and I have a lease there. Tomorrow I’m changing my drivers license and license plates I’ll also try to get my health card. The issue is I’m still working here in Quebec because I can’t find work in Ottawa so far…I work as a préposé aux bénéficiaires here in Quebec. My concern is that me still working here can be a red flag for IRCC I presume? Even if I provide my lease , bank statement , phone bill, drivers license etc. With my new adress they can still think I’m only pretending to live in Ontario? Should I wait to find a job before sending the application? Sorry if my post is a mess I just need some advice thank you in advance

Nothing wrong with living in ontario and working in Quebec. You can do it your whole life if you want - you'd still be a resident of ontario.

If your job is daily and, say, on Anticosti Island they might eventually twig that seems an improbable commute though.

Yes that’s true but since I’ve lived in Quebec all my life and the extreme wait time to sponsor someone in Quebec they might see it as me trying to dodge the Quebec’s wait time by moving temporarily to Ontario…there’s a chance they could reject my application because of this I think ,no? Having a job in Ontario would prove without a doubt that I’m living in Ontario full time. I wish I could keep my job though

I doubt they much care unless obviously fake. You won't be the first to leave Quebec for various reasons caused by the govt over the last, say, 50 or 60 years.

There are plenty who live in ON and commute for taxes alone. It's not a problem - as long as you actually reside in Ontario.

Yeah but how can they see/know that I actually reside in Ontario? If I’m in Quebec 5 days a week for work just the lease , drivers license ?

Those are pretty big things - you effecitvely have to give up the ones you had before. Plus medi insurance. Plus you'll pay taxes in Ontario.

Keep in mind too - the private sector (eg car insurance) will do some policing of where you are as well. Not active, ncessarily, but if they decide you're ripping them off, it'll be your problem.

Why would they think I’m ripping them off ? And what can happen if they decide I am? If I lie about how far I travel to work or something ?

Because you are declaring that you are a resident of Ontario but spending the majority of your time in Quebec. Where are you living when spending 5 days a week in Quebec? I see a lot of potential problems if you are not actually spending the majority of your time living in Ontario. You can also run into issues with RAMQ and taxes if you are spending the majority of your time living in Quebec. If you remain employed in Quebec and spending most of your time in Quebec it could be assumed that you aren’t truly living outside Quebec and just trying to skirt the sponsorship rules. IRCC and the Quebec provincial government is aware of people trying to get processed faster by trying to claim they no longer live in Quebec. Is there a way for you to at least work remotely?

I don’t work full time I’m on call so I go back to Ontario unless I have a double shift I then crash at a friends house. If I’m in Quebec it’s to work other than that I’m in Ontario . How would they even know If I spent most of my time in Quebec? All of this is confusing to me because I’m actively looking for a job in Ottawa I don’t want to do this commute all the time but it’s my source of income. So it sounds like it’s better for me to wait to find a job there before we send the application. No sadly I work as a personal support worker , I care for elderly people in a nursing home. I love my job but for some reason I can’t find something similar in Ontario so far no one has called me. :(

Should be relatively easy to find a PSW job in Ontario. Whether you can live off the salary in most of Ontario is a different story. How much time are you actually spending in Quebec a week? How many days and nights are you staying in Ontario? Declaring you are a resident of another province is fraud. The fact that you are working but living in another place that is not close by like Ottawa & Gatineau can raise concerns. For example if you made a claim for an accident in Quebec with your Ontario insurance the insurance company may look at why you were in Quebec and not in Ontario and if they find that you spend the majority of your time living in Quebec they can deny your claim. How exactly can you commute to Ontario from Anticoati island? Why not go to the Maritimes which is a lot closer?
