Hello,
So, I have been dating my fiance for 2 years now, and we decided to get married. She has a 1 year work permit which will expire this December. My question is, am I eligible to sponsor her( I believe I can since were getting married, but not sure)? Its my first time doing a sponsorship, so need some light.

Also, I checked at the forms for sponsorship. Im working from 2012 till the present 2017 but on the application it says to input the history of my work from 5 years, im still working at the present, should I just cut it out like 2012 to 2016 even though im still working?

And what is principal applicant?

Please advice :)
Thank you

From what you have said so far, you are likely able to sponsor your soon to be spouse. If you have lived together for a continuous year, you could sponsor her under Common-Law, or after you marry as a Spouse.

You can enter the day you sign the form, and include a note that it's on-going.

are you a canadian citizen or permanent resident? if so, then more than likely you qualify to sponsor your spouse. i would recommend going through the eligibilty review page on the website. it's pretty clear cut. pretty much any citizen or pr that has not been convicted of a domestic abuse crime or bankruptcy and are not on welfare are eligible.

they want to see your work history from the past 5 years from the date you submit your application. so if you've been working at the same place for the past 5 years or longer, you put the date you started through the date of the application or write "present" in the "to" box.

principal applicant = the person applying for pr sponsorship, so that would be your wife. for application purposes, you are ONLY the sponsor, and only need to fill out sponsor forms. you do not fill out applicant forms that suggest copies are needed for "spouses". that terminology is for other immigration streams, not spousal sponsorship.

Lately, folks have reported problems with validation of dates, if it's not a valid date. That form has to be validated now too (I guess there is a barcode page that speed up entry).

There is no Validate button on the 5532 form. I wrote in "Present" - The only form with a validate button which also lists dates/history is the Schedule A form, which lets to pick "Ongoing" as a checkbox.
