Spousal Sponsorship Fees

Hi all,

I'm a bit confused about paying the fees for my wife's sponsorship.

I've read on this forum that the fee should be:
Sponsorship application (per application) $75.00
Principal applicant $475.00
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490.00
Total (75+475+490) $1,040.00

But when I go to pay online, there is a "Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner $550.00" option. Is this new? Should I be checking this one and the principal applicant fee as well? Or just the spouse one? Or just the principal applicant one? Is the spouse referred to here the spouse of the principal applicant or my spouse?

Below is what I see when I go to submit my fees:

Family Class
Sponsorship application (per application) $75.00
Principal applicant $475.00
Principal applicant who is under 19 years of age, unmarried and not in a common-law relationship $75.00
Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner $550.00
Family member of the principal applicant who is under 19 years of age, unmarried and not in a common-law relationship OR is 19 years of age or older who has been unable to be financially self-supporting since before the age of 19 due to a physical or mental condition $150.00
Fee subject to a transitional provision - Family member of the principal applicant who is 22 years of age or older $550.00
Fee subject to a transitional provision - Family member of the principal applicant who is under 22 years of age, unmarried and not in a common-law relationship OR is 22 years of age or older who is unable to be financially self-supporting due to physical or mental condition $150.00
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490.00

I'd really appreciate any advice I can get here.

Thank you!

That would only be if you were sponsoring say your parent, plus their spouse.

To sponsor your spouse, you need to pay the principal applicant fee.

The 550 is the total of the applicant fee and the sponsor fee. 475+75=550. And the 550+490=1040.

If you have a look at what the OP posted, you will see that you are wrong. OP is referring to a specific fee that is $550 and is for, as MilesAway said, when sponsoring a family member AND their spouse.

This refers to the principal applicant's spouse, which is you. Since you are the sponsor and not included in the application, this fee does not apply.

There are situations where the family member being sponsored has a spouse being sponsored as well, such as parent sponsorship. This is where that particular fee would apply.

Thank you everyone for your input! So, I'll pay the:
Sponsorship application (per application) $75.00
Principal applicant $475.00
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490.00
Total (75+475+490) $1,040.00

This is exactly what I wanted to confirm.

Thanks again.

the applicant and the sponsor fee must be paid upfront. the right of permanent residency (RPRF) can be paid upfront or upon request from the visa office. The visa office will not be able to finalize the application until it's paid, and it's usually requested at the same time as the passport.

Ok, so basically it's best to pay all fees upfront, in one go - online, I assume? do we add all these fees in the system somehow, or are there separate receipts, and separate payments, for the PA, sponsorship fee, RPRF?

yes, they are paid online. once the payment is submitted, you'll receive a receipt to print out. if you pay them all at once, there will be 1 receipt. if you pay them separately, there will be as many receipts as payments made. whatever receipts you have must go in the application package.

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help. My application was returned and I have to resubmit with something that was left out. In terms of the fees that I have already paid, would I have to pay a new set of fees? Will there be a refund? Or do I send back the same receipt I originally sent?
