Spousal Sponsorship Extra questions

Hi,

I just submitted (last week) the spousal sponsorship for my spouse who lives in India. I am a Canadian Citizen. I wish to visit him next month. We have not received any email that they have received the application. I have to get my Canadian passport renewed because it is expiring in October. Can I get it renewed at this time or will it cause some delays in our application? If I need to let CIC know, what is the best way to reach them. I've tried calling the help centre with this question but no one is answering.

I also wanted to know how long I can be away from Canada. Will the length of time delay our application.

Go ahead and renew your passport. This won't impact the application.

How long are you planning on being outside of Canada? If you're going for a few weeks - no issue. If you're leaving for a few months, it's possible CIC may contact you to request proof that you plan to return to Canada and live her once your spouse's PR is approved. If this evidence is requested, this will create some delays with application processing.

Thanks for clarifying passport renewal question. However, do I have to make sure they know that I renewed it or will it just update in their system automatically?

In terms of the being outside Canada, I was hoping to go for a few months. However, I can decrease that down to a few weeks. We don't want any delays in the application. Is 1-2 months okay?

They don't need to know that the sponsor has a new passport. So no need to notify anyone.

1-2 months should be OK.
