I'm sponsoring my Pakistani spouse and am going through the list of documents she'll need. It all makes sense so far, except for the point below highlighted in red.

• Original birth certificates for yourself and your family members including your spouse or
common-law partner. A birth certificate is acceptable if the registration of the birth was made
shortly after the birth.
• Certified copies of your national identity card (CNIC).
• Original marriage certificate for you and your spouse (Nikkah Nama).
• Original death certificate(s) if your sponsor's or your former spouse(s), common-law or conjugal
partner(s) is/are deceased.
• Original divorce certificate for you or your spouse's previous marriages. If a divorce has been
obtained in Pakistan by a sponsor residing in Canada, you must submit evidence that either party
of the divorce resided in Pakistan for at least one year prior to the divorce. Alternatively, you may
submit evidence that either party to the divorce had a substantial connection to Pakistan such as
frequent visits, property ownership, and/or active businesses in Pakistan.
Official documentation confirming your relationship to your sponsor and both of your relationships
to the other family members on your application. This may include family lists and
household registries.

• Original educational documents for you and your family members such as

What in God's name is a family list and household registry? If my spouse and I are getting married through an arranged marriage, then to my understanding, the only relevant "official" document that confirms our relationship would be a marriage certificate. Can someone please clarify?

Photos, chatlogs, telephone bills, pictures with family/friends, receipt of gifts, honeymoon, tickets of trips togheter... and everything else you can think that could help you to prove that your relationship is genuine.
If you don't have any of this kind of stuff, you'll have to explain and convince the officer "why".

I'm not sure that is the case for the OP since he is from a country where arranged marriage is the norm.

Some countries have family registries, it's a civil registry of all your family members. Some countries, like Japan, have official genealogical registries.

From Pakistan all I can find is something called an "FRC" which you can get from the NADRA. I'm sure someone else can answer this more specifically.

Some countries don't (didn't) have "Birth Certificates". They have "Family registry" or something similar. Common in East Asia. Aquakitty mentioned Japan. Also applied to South Korea (but now they have Birth Certificates also). These documents prove the relationship between the applicants and their parents and siblings (immediate family at the time)

spousal sponsorship inland

Sorry if this is hijacking OP's post. I can't figure out how to create a new post, it seems I can only reply to a post. I've changed the subject so hopefully that means it will make a new post!?

I was hoping I could get some help with a few questions I have. I am a Canadian Citizen and my wife is a German Citizen. We are married and she is a PhD student in Canada, so We are going to apply for her permanent residence through spousal sponsorship from inland.

Here are some of my questions:

Spouse/Common-Law Questionnaire (IMM5285) Question 3 asks for if we are living together (we are), and it asks for the period of cohabitation. I can fill out when we moved in together, but what am I supposed to enter for the "to date"? Hopefully forever or until one of us dies...!?!

Generic Application form for Canda (IMM0008) Similar to the above question, question 10 asks current country of residence with from and to date listed. We know what to fill in for from date (date she entered Canada as a student), but what should we enter for the to date? Should we enter the end date on her student visa?

Application to Sponsor (IMM1344) Sponsor Details section - I think my situation is a bit complicated to fill this out... My passport has my chinese name and my english name for given names, so this is what I have entered into BOX 1. However, when I immigrated to Canada when I was 4, my landing document and citizenship card both only have my chinese name for my given name. I just started using Andrew, and they let me put Andrew on my driver's license and passport. So i'm not sure how to answer Box 2 (have you ever used any other name eg. nickname). Should I put Andrew as a nickname in that box? And finally in box 6c) it asks "full name at the time you became a permanent resident" and an additional checkbox of "same as your current full name?". Not sure what I should enter. If I answer no in this checkbox I'm assuming I would need to provide some document showing that I changed my name, but I've never officially changed my name to add Andrew as a given name. I just started using it and now I guess it is official since it is on my passport.

For supporting documents that need to be provided and have a certified translation, from what I can tell, it is just her birth certificate and police report. Our marriage license is in english. She has a national ID card, and entered the info into one of the application forms. Does this mean we should also submit a photocopy of it?

Thanks!

Andrew

Andrew -

There is a "New Topic" link in the upper right corner. You use that to create a new thread.

For 1&2, you can either enter the date of the application (the date that the application is signed) or hand write "current" or "present". My wife did the latter.

For #3, your application name is whatever name is on your current passport ("Andrew") and any alias you can use your chinese name. CIC will always go by the name that is on your passport.

She should send in all copies of any official identity documents.

I am sponsoring my spouse (he lives in Pakistan) and I am confused about the family lists and household registries as well. Was this issue resolved?

Can someone resolve this? I am applying for my Pakistani spouse as well. Need clarification on this question.

OP here.

i sent in the "form B" from my wife's side of the family (original + NADRA copy), and they were fine with that.

What's a "Form B"? Could you clarify this mate? So I can ask her to do the same. Jazakallah Khair

Do you have to sent it in the form B for each of the family member from your wife's side? Does my family have to fill out that form as well?

it's a family registration thing that will list each member of her family. so that includes her parenents, herself, and her siblings.

i only provided one form B, and that was for my wife's family. tell your wife to ask her parents for their form B. they'll know what it is.

Ok I understand now. Cheers mate. Jazakallah
