Hey guys,

Just had a couple questions about landing when PR is approved. I'm applying through common law sponsorship outland, I'm Australian and my partner is Canadian

1. Is it a requirement to send in your passport during the processing time? I'll be travelling and trying to plan for this event.

2. Once PR is approved, roughly how long do you have before you have to land in Canada? A couple of months? Or immediately? Is there an expiry and deadline before you have to reenter Canada. Also, because I'm travelling trying to plan with this.

Thanks :)

Most visas have an expiry date which is the date your medical expires

Australia is a visa exempt country for Canada, so you will not get a visa as such that has to go in your passport (see here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-all.asp ). You may (or may not) get a request for the passport bio page(s), if you do, these are normally scanned / photocopies and NOT the original.

PR Approval will result in the issue of a CoPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence). A fairly unimpressive foolscap printed page and a copy. It will have an expiry date, which is normally one year from the date of your medical. You MUST land in Canada and declare PR before that date.
