Hi all,

Bear with me here....

We are a married couple, married 11 years, two kids blah blah blah.

We have lived in Australia since our marriage. I am Australian, wife is Canadian (PR of Australia), kids have dual citizenship.

We have decided to go and live in Canada. We have filled out our application form and will be sending it in the next few days.

My questions are:
Seeing as though we both live outside Canada, we have filled out the spousal app for applicants living outside Canada. I am correct in that we send our application to Mississauga or do we send it to Sydney Australia?

We are planning liquidate everything in Australia and leave in Jan 2014 and go back to Canada for an extended holiday while our case is being processed. Would this be a big issue in relation to our application?

Is there anything we need to consider before we do the above?

Any help/advice will be appreciated:)

Hi

Yes, the entire app must go to Mississauga for sponsor evaluation. They will forward the app on to Sydney once the sponsor is approved.

It isn't really an issue for a visa-exempt person to come to Canada while the PR app is processing. Many people (including my partner and I) have done this, it won't affect your PR app. However, you must still be careful when entering the country. Bring proof of the PR app, like the fee receipt or sponsor approval letter if you have it by then, and proof of funds. You will be entering as a visitor, so don't use words such as "moving" or "living" in Canada, as you won't have the legal right to live in Canada until you are a PR. You will be waiting out the processing in Canada with your wife and kids but only as a visitor. If you guys have a lot of belongings to bring, have it shipped over under your wife's name after you enter Canada.

hiya, thanks for that info. Do you know how long it takes for the sponsor letter of approval to come? Does that come via normal mail or via email?

A little over a year ago, it was taking 3 months. Seems to me now they're processing SA in about a month (for most cases). We got ours via email, but I've read a few cases here where it arrived by snail mail.

thanks for that!

is there any way that you can request that it be sent by email? Just wondering as we will be cutting it fine in regards to SA being processed and us leaving Australia

no - there is no way to request it by email. If you don't have the sponsor approval by the time you travel, you can also use the fee receipt to show that you have applied for PR, that should also be OK. there is also a good chance that you won't be asked anything at the border, but it's better to be prepared.

another question: if SA is approved and processing on the principal applicant starts, do the processing centres get in touch with you via email or in writing if there is any additional information they require?

Majority of the time, they communicate just by email.
