Spousal sponsorship as a new PR

Hello everyone.

I expect to receive my PR soon and I am considering the option of sponsoring my spouse (to be wed in a few months). Would I be able to start the sponsorship process as soon as I obtain my PR and land in Canada or is there a waiting period? My fiance said she found something about having to wait 5 years.

Yes. Or you can get married and let IRCC know of change in family composition and they will issue COPR to both.
 
Hi, thanks for the replies. I won't be getting married before I receive the COPR so I suppose that option may be out. What's the 5 year thing about?

I think there is no such 5 year thing, Spouse sponsorship usually take from two months to year if you file it after you get your PR. I have seen people getting approvals in two months,

Are you in common law relationship you can’t sponsor her later

Are you getting married before or after you land? If before, you need to add your spouse else won’t be able to sponsor her.
 
We aren't married yet. I believe my COPR has been processed and I'll likely land this month.
 
Is boyfriend/ girlfriend considered common law? We don’t live together.
 
Waiting 5 years if you have been sponsored to come to Canada by a spouse and got divorced. You have to wait 5 years from When you got PR before you can sponsor another spouse.

No I got my PR through express entry. I’ll be marrying my girlfriend soon and want to sponsor her when she is my wife.
