Hello all, I have a question about my immigration situation.

I am an American citizen seeking spousal sponsorship to Canada via inland application.

I sent in my application in early December 2020 and havent heard anything since. When I applied I was on an open work permit that expired a week afteer I applied for PR. I did the smart thing and applied for a new open work permit and visitor visa both to gain me implied status. Being that visitor visas are typically only good for 6 months and I applied in December, I set the visitor visa to end in June. It just now got approved, so I guess ill enjoy my 3 week visitor visa lol

I will still be on implied status for my open work permit until I get an answer, which I set to end in October this year because my passport is set to expire in october later this year and you cant apply for a permit beyond your passport expiration. I am in the process of renewing my passport, but I think this holds zero bearing on my current work permit that is still in progress. Judging by how long it took for my visitor permit to be approved my guess is the October window will pass far before my work permit gets processed since it was mailed in with my PR application.

My question to you all is- What should I do once my passport is renewed?

Apply for another work permit before my current one even gets processed? Apply for another visitor visa? I am confused as to what I should do.

I am 100% self employed in e-commerce shipping globally and dont really need a work permit per se, I just applied for one in case my e business dropped and I needed a "normal job" through a Canadian employer.

should I just apply for a new visitor visa when my passport gets renewed? The issue then becomes that ill likely need to wait longer than 6 months for my PR because I read they are just now finishing applications from November 2019.

I figured my application would be easy- I am a 29 year old American citizen with some money saved, no debt, no crimes, no major health problems, no kids, or any dependents. Figured I would have heard something by now.

Let me know what you guys think and a big thanks!

Join the December 2020 inland thread. I believe it's quite common not to have heard anything yet.

Once you have your new passport, simply notify IRCC of the new passport number and expiry date and they will update your application.

If you have the biometric reminder email. Try lookup your application via ECAS.
Most dec applicants have temp AOR now and some received AOR to link the app online.
I would call IRCC to locate the application if you haven't got anything yet including biometric reminder.
