Hi,
I am being sponsored by my spouse for permanent residency in Canada.
I have received an email from IRCC that requests me to access PR confirmation portal and declare I am in Canada. When we originally submitted the file I was in Canada and then I travelled outside Canada and was stuck in the country due to covid & expiry of my study permit. We changed the file status from inside Canada to outside Canada few months ago.
Now currently, since I am not in Canada what should I do in regards to PR confirmation portal email? Also, please advise if you are aware what the next steps will look like in my case?

Your feedback will be appreciated.

Did you apply inland while you were in Canada or outland? Hopefully you submitted an outland application from the start.

It's not possible to switch an application from inland to outland. What do you mean when you say that you changed the file status from inside of Canada to outside of Canada? Did you update IRCC on your address?

Anyway, the most important question is whether your originally application was inland or not. Please let us know the answer to that.

Hello,
Thank you for responding, I appreciate your help in this matter.

Originally my application was inland (around April 2021). I travelled outside Canada while my study permit was still active, and it expired when I was still stuck in my home country. So we later reached out to IRCC and informed them about this change. (and I think my application is now considered outland but I still received Pr portal link that asks me to confirm I am in Canada). I do not have a travel visa at the moment based on which I can enter Canada.
Would I have to ask IRCC regarding getting a PR visa now?

Please advise.

What response did you receive from IRCC when you notified them you were no longer in Canada?

As far as I know, you cannot "switch" an application from inland to outland.

If you planned to travel to your home country and stay for a while, you could have filed the application as outland while you were physically in Canada.
You cannot be outside of Canada for an inland application to proceed/approved. I do not know what you can do now.

I have a similar question. I am going to submit an outland application and I am now in Canada. But I may go back to my spouse's country for a while to visit her after I submit my application. Would that be a problem? Will IRCC ask me to confirm that I am in Canada?

If you are a citizen, that won't be a problem. IRCC may ask for proof of re-settling in Canada if you moved out of Canada for a long period of time. (like a year if the application hasn't yet been approved at that point)

You must be honest and report that you are outside of Canada.
