Spousal passport conditions for sponsorship

Hello Everyone,

I am going to sponsor my wife and wants to know whether is it necessary to change update her passport with spouse name (husband's name) on it for sponsoring her?

Thanks Canuck, one last question, document checklist asks for medical date and on cic site somewhere i read cic will advise us when u do medicals. I find it contradictory
