I'm currently in progress with my employer on a job opportunity in our Vancouver office. I'm interested in what it would take for my fiancé to get an open work permit. We are both currently in American and American citizens.

I know if we get married in the US it will probably be a lot easier for her to get an OWP than if we moved there not married.

Can she apply at the same time as me or will she have to wait until we are there and send my info in with hers to get the OWP?
About how long does this process take? If we were to land April 1st when could we expect her to start looking for work?
Should I be looking at getting an immigration lawyer to help with everything?

Thanks

Unless you are married or have been living together in a Common/law relationship for 1 year (and can prove it) she is not entitled to an OWP. If you meet the criteria as spouses, she can apply on entry for an OWP if your job is NOC A, B or O at the same time you apply for your work permit.

I can only assume my job will be NOC A,B, O since my employer is handling everything.

We have been living in the states together for 5 years and can prove it, utility bills, bank account address ect...will Canada recognize that or do you have to be living together in Canada for 1 year and can prove it?

Do you know about how long the processing takes once the paper work is submitted?

Also about how much is the cost for everything?

Thanks.
