I am a student in Canada with a valid 2 year study permit expiring in April 2024. My studies are almost over and I am going to apply for my PGWP (3 years validity) in August 2023. My status is going to change from study to work permit in August2023. My wife and kid are staying India. 4 months back I had applied for my spousal open work permit and child visiting visa and it got approved and they have valid visa till April 2024. My question here is, is there anyway I can convert/extend their SOWP and visit visa for next 3 years , while staying In India.? or is it necessary that they need to land here in Canada for extension of their Visa.? Any valuable insight is really appreciated.

They land and apply to extend 3 months prior to expiry. Assume child is not school age so doesn’t require a study permit.

Soft land? Soft landing is when people come to Canada to activate PR and then leave right away. They can enter anytime prior to expiry. Once in Canada, they apply for extension.

Sorry if I used the word soft land incorrectly . I meant to say they come and stay for few days and leave after applying for extension. Apart from this option, is there anyway they can extend their visa while staying In India without coming to Canada for time being.?

Extension are for within Canada so they stay while waiting for approval. For a TRV, child would have to reapply for a new one if not in Canada. If your spouse leaves she would need to apply for a new TRV to reenter if TRV expired.
