I desperately need to work and have job offers. I was told to apply for an open work permit online but when it came to my status I am stuck. My spouse has been approved as my sponsor and everything has been complete in my file and the file for my 3 daughters, all from my Canadian citizen husband. When it comes to the page of my status, I don't get it. I have nothing. What am I supposed to have? a temporary permit or something? I have my passport from 2 years ago and nothing else. I obviously need something to move forward for the open work permit which I was told they would refund the 150.00 should my perm residence occur in the meantime.they started processing my file september 2012 but it was all submitted in 2011. I had to redo my medicals and renew a US passport that had expired. Please help. I am more than confused and my family needs income. My canadian husband has 3 low paying jobs and we are not making ends meet. Is there some sort of emergency insurance number I can get? I didn't apply for work permit with my application I didn't know it was an option as we have done this whole thing without lawyers. Thank you! :D

Did you apply inland or outland? Was your file submitted to Vegreville or Mississauga?

No, there is no emergency thing you can get. You are eligible to appy for an OWP, the job offers really mean nothing at this point because you have AIP...
The current processing times for OWP are:

Online application, 52 days
Paper application, 79 days

We have about the same timeline, given that you have applied inland and there is a good chance your PR will come in before your work permit, but you never know...if that is the case then yes, you'll be refunded. If they started processing yours in September like mine, 8 months is the average time and you could be looking at May for PR...however each case is different and I've seen people wait for a lot longer for PR so don't just assume yours will be processed by May :(

Not the news you wanted to hear, sorry!

If things are that bad for your family, look for options such as food banks or local churches for a little bit of help!
Good luck!
