Spousal Application - Family Members (Forms IMM 5406 and IMM 0008DEP)

Hi everyone,

I am working on a spousal application for my wife. She is from Brazil. I am a Canadian citizen. We got married in Canada this past August. There is one section we are a little confused about. On the 5525 guide it says:

"Family members who are not declared and examined are excluded from the family class, which means you can’t sponsor them later. If a permanent resident doesn’t declare all family members on their application, they could risk losing their own permanent resident status."

She has no dependent children and she does not plan on sponsoring her mother, father, or sister in the future. Do we need to list her mother, father, and sister on the IMM 5406 and IMM 0008DEP forms? Or are these meant only for dependents? The definition of "family member" is a little confusing on the website.

Family members
An applicant’s closest relatives, in the context of an application to IRCC. It is defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children.

SECTION A
Write the personal details for:

• Yourself (the person being sponsored),
• your spouse or common-law partner, (if this applies to you)
• your mother, and
• your father.

0008DEP should be completed only if you have more than five dependents on your application.

The Principal Applicant must declare father, mother, sisters, brothers and dependent (children) in IMM5406 whether accompanying or non-accompanying.

yes include the father, mother and sister in IMM5406 even if she does not plan on sponsoring.

One more question: on form IMM 0008 it asks for "how many family members, including you, are in this application?"

Is this asking how many family members including her mother, father, and sister? Or is this just referring to herself, the principal applicant? We were assuming this should just be "1", so the latter.

"how many family members, including you, are in this application?"

includes the principal applicant and any of the principal applicant dependent children......those not include father, mother, sister, brother....and also does not include the sponsor.....those not include any of principal applicant dependent children who are Canadian Citizens.
