I’ve looked into this a lot, and placing bets isn’t officially categorized as work since it’s considered a form of personal entertainment rather than employment. However, if you’re consistently making profits, tax rules could apply depending on your situation. A useful way to check out different betting platforms is through reviews like https://au.trustpilot.com/ , where you can see other users’ experiences before getting involved.

Hi. I'm currently on a study permit without the right to work and I was wondering if I'm allowed to bet on sports.
When I was studying, I also sometimes bet, but very rarely and wisely, realizing that it is more entertainment than a way to earn money. The main thing is not to treat bets as a source of income. I recently read on https://www.chatsports.com/nfl/a/how-bet-nfl-games-42670 about how to bet on NFL games. This article helped me a little. If you decide to try, it is important to choose reliable platforms. But studying should remain a priority.
There is no law in Canada that prohibits students from betting, even if they are not eligible to work.
