Good day everyone,
Have a few questions.
My boyfriend comes from Jamaica to Newfoundland in the summer to work in agricultural. This year he does not want to return to Jamaica and would like to stay with me in Newfoundland. The thing is his work visa for Agricultural and his contract says he has to return to Jamaica by the 15th of December. We plan on getting married, but unsure if we want to this year. So my questions are what are our options.
Get married and apply for spousal sponsorship or apply for another work permit while he is here. My understanding is he needs to have a job offer for the work permit, not sure if this is correct or not. People have also to get a immigration lawyer but they can be very costly... need help please.

If you get married and begin a spousal sponsorship, then he would be able to apply for an open work permit once you receive the AoR. In that case, be prepared to offer A LOT of proof of relationship, as IRCC tends to scrutinize applications for spousal sponsorship a good bit more if the couple has been married for less than 2 years.

As for the work permit option, I would recommend posting in Foreign Workers part of the forum. They'll be able to answer the questions better there, but I do believe he would need to have a job offer to apply if he's still within Canada.
