sponsorship without notice of assessment

Hi all.

I need help. so my gf did not file for taxes because she owed about 200. Now we cant get a notice of assesement without filing for her taxes. We are just wondering what our options are. Will providing statements, t4 and letters of employment help. My post grad permit expires in feb and it maybe to late to get the assessment. Help please.

Now she could owe even more in late fees. It can also screw up your provincial medical plan, which in some places is based on your level of income, and if you don't file taxes they will send you a bill for the highest medical premium. Why don't you try sending it to an accountant, they could find benefits you didn't know about. You might not owe money at all.

So basically your options are... pay your taxes.

Okay. Well she is going to file but the notice of assessment wont come on time. So u think a letter explaining why she didnt file and supporting documents like a t4, letter of employment, bank statements highlighting her pay, and pay stub wont help???

I think it depends on your explanation. If you say what you just said here, they aren't going to like that "she didn't file because she owed money". They are going to think she won't be able to support you, like she agreed she would. So I would honestly get the taxes done, pay it, and then apply. That's just me.

you are right! that makes sense. Well. At the time she could have paid for it but she wnet to hnr and money mart to file for her taxes but they never gave an explanation on what she owed, all they said was it was not showing on the system and she has to call canada revenue. She just didnt bother with it because she has always filed for her taxes and got a refund but this is the first time she was told she owed money instead without an explanation. But now she is filing but its too late. So we dont know what to do.
