Hello everyone,
I'm a new member to this forum, and have been searching for threads on this topic, however, couldn't find information pertaining to our circumstances ( and if i missed a previous thread, please redirect me so that i can find the info )

I am a Canadian Citizen born outside of Canada to Canadian parents.
My wife and I got married in January this year and I am in the process of filling out her application under Family Class because we are currently living in Korea (i've been here for a few years now, due to a career shift).
The thing is, she is currently 6 months pregnant, and the application requires information about dependants... i know the child is not yet born, but i just wanted to make sure of a couple things :

1. I apply as though we do not have any dependent children ?
2. Do I submit additional documents after the child is born ? and if so, which ones?
3. is there a better way to inform the office of the expecting child during my initial application ?

Sorry if this information has been mentioned previously... but i'm unclear about how to deal with this circumstance, and I don't want the application office to feel misinformed and have our application denied.

Thank you in advance for any input on this matter.

Mike

1) Correct. At this point in time, you do not have any dependent children.
2) Yes. You will need to notify the visa office processing your application and they will tell you how to proceed.
3) No. There is no mechanism to preemptively apply for a prospective child.

Congrats on your marriage.
As a Canadian citizen who lives abroad you are eligible to sponsor but must show proof when you apply for spousal sponsorship that you and your family plan to return to Canada when your relatives immigrate and are granted PR visa.

Who Can Sponsor....
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...-sponsorship/other-relatives/eligibility.html

Its a lot easier if you the sponsor were living in Canada.
Its not uncommon for the sponsorship to be rejected if the visa office is not convinced you plan to move back to Canada.
So you must provide convincing proof in your application that you plan to live in Canada.

Read recent Canadian Abroad experience....

1. I apply as though we do not have any dependent children ?

You currently have no dependant until baby birth, so your sponsorship application will be for only your spouse if you apply before baby birth.

Please make sure you provide all the documents as required in the IRCC checklist...
https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm5533e.pdf

2. Do I submit additional documents after the child is born ? and if so, which ones?

If baby is born abroad, your newborn will be a 2nd generation baby born abroad and will not be a Canadian citizen due to 2nd generation limit but is eligible to be added to application and issued PR.

If sponsorship application is submitted before baby birth, after the child is born, you will need to update forms and add newborn to the spousal sponsorship application.

How you add the newborn to the application depends.......please see the case adding of newborn abroad.....

3. is there a better way to inform the office of the expecting child during my initial application ?

You only need to indicate your spouse is pregnant and provide the due date in the IRCC form IMM5532E - Part C - Q. #10

3. my wife was pregnant during our app process. i sent an general email question to the VO asking about medical and pregnancy, the VO replied asking for new visa stamps on my Canadian passport and due date of my child. i sent the requested info the VO requested within hours. Did not seem to speed up the process but we got our interview waived, which is always a good thing

Wow, firstly,
Thank you all for your quick and concise responses.
This forum is an invaluable resource :)

I will apply as though I do not have any children and will indicate my wife is pregnant with the expected due date.
The thing is we actually do not plan to move back to Canada until the beginning of 2020, when our current home contract is complete and have saved enough to buy a home (downpayment at least) in the outskirts of Toronto since prices have skyrocketed since i last left :(

Also, I would like to solidify a job position before moving there, however providing this proof might be difficult in the beginning of my application.
The plan is all layed out, but I hope this doesn't deter the VO office to refuse the application because of our slight delay to prepare our move to Canada, as it is all a part of our life plan. I have checked the box that says immediately after my wifes becomes a PR, we plan to move to Toronto... but i'm not sure how much time they will allow.

Worst case scenario, we can stay at my fathers apartment until we settle in... but i am hoping not to have to rely on that.

Thank you all for all your input.
You've really lifted some weight off my shoulders... and much faster than waiting for a response from the VO.

Why don’t you wait until after your child is born to apply for PR knowing you only want to move in 2020? Then you could sponsor wife and child at the same time versus wife then resubmitting for child. You would also be able to show intent to move.
