I am a dual US/Canadian citizen
Born in USA, I was granted citizenship in 2014 as my mother was born in Alberta.

I wish to sponsor my US citizen wife (married 8 years) as a permanent resident, however, I have a criminal record from the states for aggravated rape from 1993 thaT will always be there; hence, why I moved to Canada where there is no link or connection to this crime.

According to the immigration website, this would indeed invalidate my ability to sponsor her. I am curious as to how this would he checked given I have NO CRIMINAL RECORD in Canada.

There is a form question that asks about your criminal history. You'd have to lie about your criminal record in the US to claim no criminal records.

Unfortunately, sexual or domestic violence crimes are bars to sponsorship.

Canada and the US do share criminal record history; you can assume that Canada would find your criminal record from the US.
