Hi,

Just checking to be sure.
Is it true that BOTH the applicant for permanent residence, AND the sponsor (Born Canadian Citizen) need Criminal Record Checks?

Or just the applicant needs this?

Usually just the applicant. The only reason CIC might request one from the sponsor is if there has been a past criminal conviction that may make them ineligible as a sponsor.

Thanks for the reply.
So, I assume the only reason the sponsor should supply a criminal record check is if it is REQUESTED by CIC.

Yes, CIC will do a name check on CPIC for the sponsor, if there is a person with the same name and similar age, they will either interview the sponsor to see if it is him or her or request a fingerprint check.

hi all! I was asked to go for fingerprints by CIC. now after 4 months i got the report which says impressions were taken poor so RCMP couldn't perform fingerprint check. but name and DOB checks are done and didnt match with any previous records. m confused. will cic call me again for fingerprints or it should be ok?? please leave your answers here. Thanks
