No, this is not correct. The COPR is usually valid until the medical exam expires (12 months after medical was done). Sometimes the VO can extend the medical, sometimes they ask for a re-med.

I received my COPR on April 30 and had to land before May 27 - not even 4 weeks time!
And when are the meds due?
They have to be done at the very beginning of the application process, right?
What if they expire? Can you perform a new checkup and and for an extension in order to land later on?

We did our Meds and Police Check upfront and submitted it with the application.

Applicants should have their medical done shortly before they sent in the application. The applicant goes to a CIC panel doctor (you can find a list on the CIC website) and tells them that he/she needs an upfront medical examination for family sponsorship. You get one piece of paper which has to be included in the application.

If your process takes less than 12 months you are a lucky and you don't need another one. If your process takes longer than 12 months than CIC either extends your medical for up to 12 months or they ask for a new one. Never do a re-med without CIC asking for it.

My medical expired on April 4, my COPR was issued on April 17, I received it on April 30 and I had to land before May 27. This means that CIC extended my medicals from April 4 until May 27. I got lucky and didn't have to do another medical :D

Hi there,
thanks a lot for providing with the Sydney VO thread!
Well, I happened to know quite a few kiwis and Canadians here in Melbourne and the thing is that kiwis leave NZ because of unfriendly economic circumstances (the same reason of mine leaving France) and after interestingly they often hang out with Canadians here in Melbourne.
I have absolutely no clue as for why but this is how it works. And on the other hand I always had this impression that most Canadians want to visit Australia sometime during their lives and the opposite thing applies to kiwis & aussies- they want to see Canada.

After all our cultures are quite similar, we speak the same language, the way of life in both countries is somewhat very similar even though Canada has massive winters etc, Canucks still have a close mentality to aussies&kiwis. So naturally people start going out together and decide to move.

I can also see that at this stage Canada has a little more to offer that Australia and is more connected with the world. That's unfortunately something that Australia will never be able to achieve. And if you need to travel or run some international business; there's nothing better than North America & Europe. Australia is unfortunately quite remote.

We are planning on settling in Calgary. I'll be looking for jobs in the oil&gas industry (desk jobs) and my fiancee is in the dietetics/sports field. So technically she'll be working for somebody or start her own thing if we have enough capital by then.

Hi...

We recently took a trip from Montreal to SE Asia and the quickest way was with Qatar Airways on 2 legs. (Montreal-Qatar, Qatar-SE Asia). They fly directly into Toronto and Montreal and from Qatar, they fly directly to Perth.

Voila... Just two legs. :)

Cathay also do two legs Toronto to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to Perth so might consider them in the future.

so it basically looks like there is no rule for that. I'll keep that in mind because it would have been stupid to get the application refused just because of meds!

But that was from Montreal :).

I think that if she settles closer to the west coast, it would be way quicker to do something like LAX - MEL - PERTH or Vancouver - HK and HK - Perth.

No matter what, Australia is just too far away :)

Cathay are very good actually. You can also have a look at Singapore. They might be a little more expensive but the service is way better!
