Med's Done....
Upfront
Sorry if this a repeated post. If it is please direct me to the relevant thread.

My partner and I both live in the UK at the moment but we would like to return to Canada next year. I am a Canadian citizen. I would like to sponsor him either as a spouse or commonlaw.
Questions about this are:

1. Do I need to have permanent work in Canada in order to sponsor him? ( ideally I would look for work once we arrive)
2. Can we both live in Canada before his sponsorship is issued?
3. If we can both live in Canada, can he continue to work for a UK company from a distance while we wait for sponsorship?
4. If we choose to get married in the next year, should we get married in Canada or the UK?
5. If I am on maternity leave from my UK job when we plan to move back would this effect anything?
6. Would he be better off applying for an Express entry instead?

That's all I can think of for now but I'm sure there is plenty more :)

1) No, but it helps. Basically CIC will want to know how you and your partner will support yourselves once you come back to Canada. A job is the easiest way to prove this. Without a job, you will need other proofs.
2) Yes. You would enter as a Canadian and your partner as a visitor (and make sure you both understand that your partner would be visiting in Canada, not living as proper terminology is very important to CBSA)
3) First, see my comment above. He is visiting, not living with you. Again the proper terminology is very important when dealing with CIC/CBSA. And yes, he can continue to work remotely for his UK employer
4) It doesn't matter. You can choose based on personal preference.
5) Not really. The issue would be #1. They will want to know how you will support yourselves while you are pregnant with a baby on the way.
6) Not sure.

Good luck!
