Sponsorship Debt

If a spousal sponsor Is free of debt from the time they send in the application for my permanent residency, but is in debt later during while we wait for it all to be approved, will they be denied? Also- do student loans count as being in debt or do they not?

I believe they look for Debts towards the Goverment, if your on Welfare, and if you declare bankruptcy. That may cause a issue. But i currently still owe OSAP so i think you should be fine.
