Does anyone know how a Consumer Proposal would effect my sponsorship? I was originally looking at filling a Bankruptcy but then looked more into a Consumer Proposal which isn't all that bad. I know it stays on my credit 3 years after I make my payments and I will be making monthly payments for 5 years. Would it effect my sponsorship and if so for how long?

The only thing that will bar you from being a sponsor, is if you are in a bankruptcy that has not yet been discharged.

A consumer proposal is NOT a bankruptcy, so there should be no issues in being a sponsor during the years you are making payments.

Are you REALLY SURE that it won't affect my sponsorship if I go ahead with a consumer proposal? I have an appointment this Friday and I asked the estate manager and her reply was "We have heard conflicting information about both bankruptcies and consumer proposals affecting sponsorship so it is best if you speak with someone at Immigration Canada on that matter."

Is there anyone on this forum who could give the right information and confirm what Rob is saying? Thanks!!!!

I did a consumer proposal.

It has nothing to do with sponsorship if he is already here and as long as his name is not on any of the debt. If he is not here it will not affect your application.

If you want any info you are welcome to contact me privately.

Hi were you approved for sponsorship during your consimar proposal ?
