Hi there,

I have recently become a permanent resident of Canada through my fiance and Canadian girlfriend of 5 years. A month ago, she left me for another man she'd been having an affair with for months. It obviously has blown me away and I have questions relating to my PR status. I understand there's a new 2 year law requiring common-law partners to stay together after receiving PR status? We had been living together for 4 years which was also in our application... would this law apply to my situation?

Any other information or tips on what I should do to guarantee my status in Canada would be greatly appreciated. Obviously this was a situation that I could never have anticipated and I'm devastated by it but motivated to keep my PR status and enjoy my life in Canada.

Thanks for you help! :-)

just continue with your life i guess ?? and just apply for citizenship when you are eligible already .. since pr status are valid for 5 years thats enough time to be able to apply for citizenship ..

What conditions are present on your COPR Document? Is condition 51 on it?

I'm not sure what the COPR document is? When I crossed the border I just got a few sheets welcoming me to Canada and an "information for permanent residents" sheet which has basic conditions on it but nothing regarding sponsorship breakdown.

My PR card hasn't arrived yet but I called CIC a week ago and they informed me it would be arriving in the next few days.

It's your "Confirmation of Permanent Residence". It might be stuck in your passport.. Big sheet of paper.

When did you apply for sponsorship? Before or after October 25, 2012?

I believe it was just before. We sent it off in September 2012

Conditional PR only refers to applications received by CIC after October 25, 2012.

So pick yourself up and make a great life for yourself in Canada.

Good luck!

Ah yep, found it. It says "conditions - none"
Excellent.. You are home free... No conditions means exactly that...
