Hi there, sorry if this is a duplicated question but...

My husband who is a Canadian Citizen has been living in NZ most of his life. So have i. I am on a Malaysian passport (im an NZ PR) so would require a visa to visit Canada.

Anyway, we are both currently living in NZ, and are looking to get him approved as a sponsor so he can sponsor me for Canadian PR. He got a job offer in canada to start in July so we are pressed for time.

We plan to go through the PR sponsorship process OUTLAND, and also apply for me to get a TRV so i can go with him to Canada and wait it out while my PR gets approved.

HOwever, is it better to apply for a TRV AFTER he has been approved to be a sponsor? or do you think tehres a chance i can still get a TRV while the sponsorship approval and PR approval is pending?

Thanks!

You can apply for the TRV when ever you like they are two different appliations and processes. But the explanation you give immigration for the TRV will be what that you want to go with your husband to wait for the PR,you will never get the TRV.so it looks like either your husband is going alone to the job or he stays there till the process is done.
The fact he is returning for work will not help or hinder your ap for PR but the chances you get the TRV are almost nil.

I would think that if i could prove ill leave Canada after the visa expires (i.e. with a return ticket) this should be ok? Also, was told by someone from the Canadian embassy (sydney office) that going to Canada on a TRV while PR is pending is possible, you just need to prove you will leave the country if your PR gets declined. Have heard that this is not an uncommon situation - have you heard of people getting the TRV in this situation?

Yes it is possible but the proof you need to prove you will return if your visa or you dont get the PR would scare you.My wife tried they told her the only way this would happen is if she left her child behind.
Well in process they say having property, car, money back in your own country does not help cause even when your here that stuff can be sold.
All you can do really is spend the money to apply for the TRV and hope for the best if not approved you loose your money. But only immigration will say yes or no.But the chances are like 5%

I just recently applied for a TRV for my wife. We live in China (have a house here, she has assets, family, friends here, etc etc). The TRV was refused for lack of sufficient ties to China.

I am going to review the CAIPS notes to see how/why the Visa Officer reached that conclusion -- especially when we pointed out that the TRV would be over well before a likely decision about the PR visa, and it would be silly to jeopardize the PR visa by abusing the TRV one. Didn't have any effect.

While it is true that "dual intent" is a policy of CIC (i.e. a PR applicant can also qualify for a TRV), from what I am reading it is very difficult to get a TRV -- very difficult to prove intent to return to New Zealand. A return ticket might not do the job, so make sure it is refundable.

Good luck.

A return ticket means nothing cause once your here with your spouse and plan to stay whats the return for.You must look at it from immigrations point of view like i said the only thing they will and might accept is if you leave a child behind.
