Sponsoring Thai wife, want to make bank draft...do I send to Canada or Singapore

Hey everyone,
Would appreciate any help anyone can give. My Thai wife, both of us who are currently living in Bangkok, and I are nearly done the applications for her PR to Canada. We have done the police check, the medical, photos, filled out the forms etc. Now the only thing I am confused about is where/how to mail the applications. I am unsure if I have to send to our visa office, which apparently is in Singapore (as they sent the results of the medical check up there) or to Missausauga Ontario...or do I send the sponsorship forms to Missausauga and the immigration ones to Singapore and if that is the case, how do I split up the bank draft. It apparently costs my family $550CDN for the whole process....but if I have to send the forms to two separate countries does that mean I need to make 2 bank drafts, or just send a copy of the total to Singapore? Confusing........... need help.

Hi there,

You need to send all your documents - sponsor forms, sponsored person's form, relationship evidence, everything to Mississauga. Once you receive your sponsorship approval, your file will be transferred to the respective Visa Office which is Singapore in your case. Your DMP will send the medicals to Singapore anyways. Once your file reaches Singapore, they will match up the medicals with your file. So dont worry abt that.

As for the bank drafts, you have to make only one. And send that along with your application to Mississauga. Are you paying the full amount which is 1040$? The 550$ you are paying are for processing. Later on, you will have to pay 490$ which is the Right of Permanent Residence Fees (RPRF), which needs to be sent to Mississauga again.

Alright, the bank draft itself. Obviously I include the receipt of the bank draft and send it along with applications. But is there anything else 'official' I need to send. I saw if I were paying at a financial institution in Canada then I would need to fill in payment receipt form (IMM 5401). I assume that is not necessary being out of country.

Have you considered paying the fees online with a credit card. Most people find that extremely convenient.

I do not think that you need to send anything more that the receipt of the bank draft. IMM 5401 needs to be ordered from CIC and is sent out to Canadian addresses. I do not think it is required for an international bank draft or money order.

Jawbone,
When you mail your application remember that there is a different address for couriers to use.... The second one listed below is the one that will accept FedEx or which ever carrier you choose.
If you were mailing from inside Canada and using Canada Post the first one would suffice.

If you haven't gotten the draft yet, paying online is super easy and you can print the receipt right away....also, paying the $1040 initially will help in cutting down some admin time in the future...You'll have to eventually pay it and they even recommend in the guide that you pay all at once....just a thought .

Actually, I did decide to pay online as the majority of people seem to think this is the easier/fastest method. And I did pay the full amount as I too had read about potential future delays. But wow, I did not know about that address issue. Thanks a lot for that tip.
