hi,

i got PR in April and I got married in May (traditional arranged marriage). I have marriage photos, marriage certificate, phone logs, chat logs.

However, my problem is I know a girl before I got PR and our marriage was fixed before I got PR. Will it create any problem.

I am now in Canada and I am very worried now because of this situation. I will appreciate if you tell me whether I can sponsor spouse.

2) Is there any written documentation that you got married to this girl before?
3) Why did you marry another girl when you know you are already engaged with another girl?

The story is like this:

1) I sent my application for PR in 2009 and my passport got stamped in March 2010.
2) My parents saw a girl around beginning of march 2010 and then they introduced me to that girl. I talked with girl on skype and we both like each other and we gave consent to marriage. and thereafter our parents arranged marriage (i mean they fixed date of marriage) around end of march, 2010.
3) I got PR in mid of April and I got married on 20 th May, 2010.

Actual date of marriage is 20th May 2010.

No. I didnt marry another girl. I married same girl.

I am only worried because of the fact that my marriage was fixed before I got PR. so will it create any problem?

I think what he is asking is because they were planning to get married before he became a PR and didn't declare her in the application if that is an issue? If you weren't living together (not common-law spouse or conjugal) then I don't think it would be an issue, but that's if I understand the question right.

yes u r right. And we were not in relationship before. It is just that our marriage got fixed before I land and actual marriage took place after I got PR only.

Thank you for clearing the confusion, you dont have to worry about it. At most you could just clarify that in writing to immigration. Its understood that there could be significant life changes during the PR process, just notify the immigration. Trust me they are not out there to get you, they just want to make sure your application is processed correctly and in a timely manner. Thanks for your reply. I married in Court. To marry in court, I have to give 30 days notice. And that notice number is present in marriage certificate. But actual marriage happened after I got PR.
So how should I proceed further. Should I write in immigration form what I told you with timeline.

No. I officially got married after I got PR. It is just that before court marriage (i.e. official marriage), they gave notice in order to confirm that bride or groom is not married to anyone and they are single.

Your clarification on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Let me clear this: So you have a civil marriage after you became PR. In order to receive the actual marriage certificate, you have applied a 30 days notice to the Court, so that you and your wife are officially married.

When you make the sponsorship and immigration application, you have to, in a separate piece of paper, to explain this reason not having the actual marriage certificate, as well as, photograph of both you and your wife, etc to convince the IO that this is a genuine relationship.

Hmm... I think the connotation of "arranged marriage" here is a little off, ssg1212. From my understanding, an Arranged Marriage is parents finding a random person and "forcing" their son/daughter to marry that person. That's not the case here, right? Your relationship developed over time, thus, the marriage. Sure your parents introduced you to the girl and helped with the wedding, but they didn't force you to marry her... did they? Saying "arranged marriage" in your letter might hurt your application more than help it. So I would suggest just build up your evidence (i.e. letters, cards, skype calls, pictures, etc.) to prove that your relationship is true and genuine and try not to come out like your marriage was arranged.

Or did you get the PR visa, get married on May 20th, and then land in Canada? Please clarify this.

By the way, if you are from a country where arranged marriages are normal (for example, India, Pakistan) then the visa officers for that country are aware of this, and having an arranged marriage will not hurt your chances to sponsor your wife. The visa officers accommodate local customs.

YES. I LANDED BEFORE MAY 20 i.e. I landed in April only. In other word, my status changes on May 20.
