Hello!

I have already received my ITA and my PR is being processed. I have applied as a single candidate.

My fiance is presently in Canada on a PGWP expiring in 2020 and we plan to get married in April 2019 after I get my PR.

My questions are:

1. Can I have the marriage ceremony held in India and register our marriage in Canada after I land (I will still land as a single person since our marriage will not be legally registered in India) and then sponsor my fiance (or husband at that time) who will already be in Canada?

2. My fiance's work permit expires in June 2020. So if sponsorship takes more that a year, will he be able to extend his work permit while the spousal sponsorship is in progress?

Thanks.

1) in my opinion u need to have your marriage registered first in India then use the marriage certificate as a supporting doc for your marriage in Canada. May be those who have done that can shed more lite on it

2) yes he can apply for open work permit once his Pgwp expires.

It doesn't matter if you register the marriage in India or not. If you do it before landing, you must add your spouse to your PR app.
