Sponsoring Spouse Abroad Questions

Thanks for all the help!

One last question.

Other than doing all the necessary paper work for a marriage license in Ontario, is there anything else my Korean spouse needs to do to get married in Ontario?

I know if I want to get married in Korea, I need to show up at the Canadian Embassy and do some paperwork. Anything similar for a Korean in Canada?

Thanks!

Hey all!

I am almost there to submit my application!

One last thing, I cannot find whether or not I should complete the medical examination before I submit the application, or afterwards.

The proof of medical examination is on the checklist, however, it is only valid for 12 months and the processing time of the spousal sponsored PR takes 17 months. I have also seen that you can wait for a request for a medical examination and you must get it within 30 days of the request, however, I can't quite find whether or not that applies to the spousal sponsorship PR.

Can anyone clarify this for me? Should I have my spouse get the medical examination before I apply (because it is on the checklist), or wait for the request?

Thanks,
Michael

Sorry. I just saw your post.

Since you are a PR (not a Canadian citizen), you need to be in Canada to sponsor your wife.

My understanding is that most people do the medical before sending their application in. Yes, you can wait and do it upon request, but as I understand, that can slow down your processing time. Many applications seem to be processed before the 12month period anyways, but if you do pass it the VO may either extend the validity of the medical, or request another, it will depend on the VO's disposition.

agreed.

it depends on processing time, but mostly requested to re-do medical.

@yvr1234 I am actually a Canadian citizen, my wife is applying for PR status. I don't need to be in Canada to be able to do this, correct?

Thanks for all of your input. I guess we will do it before we send in the application. (I don't have to do one though, right?)

Oh! Sorry. I misread your info. You will be fine to apply before you return to Canada then. :)

Hey all!

So I have been approved as a sponsor. Now the application has been sent to Ottawa. However, my application was an outland application, not inland.

Will my application be sent to the visa office closest to where I live from Ottawa?

Thanks!

If it has been sent to Ottawa, it will be processed there. You sent everything to the Mississauga office first, right?

You sent it to the right place. The Ottawa office also processes some outland applications.
