Hi everyone,

Can someone provide information on any options available to sponsor my husband to obtain an open work permit when I’m applying for my Post grad permit PGWP.

I completed my program in June 2018 however my study permit does not expire until August 2019 as I had obtained a 3yr permit. We were not married until recently hence why he wasn’t sponsored when I obtained my study permit. I am hoping to apply for my PGWP within the next 3months.

Please advise. Thanks!

Hi

You must have a skilled job and 3 payslips before he can apply for an OWP based on your PGWP.

In case you aren't aware, see here for rules on working after completing studies: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/campus-work.html#off-campus.

Thanks for this info.

Just a few more questions:
1. What is the required type of job to be able to pursue this (permanent, full time, temporary?)
2. Could you share a url that mentions the info about sponsoring him while on a PGWP?

thanks
