I have handed my paper work in since December of 2011, and as of now when I check the canadian website for updated status, it says" We received your application for permanent residence on January 24, 2012."

Medical results have been received.

My question is how long does it normally take once the paper is in Singapore? Do I need to provide additional information in order to process things quicker? Also my wife is giving birth in VietNam in 1 month and I am going back there for the birth, should I do a DNA test just to have more proof that our marriage is legitimate? Anyone have any recommendations to help expedite the process?

Thanks a bunch.

The Singapore visa office shows the processing time at 21 months.. so it looks like you have a lot more waiting to do :( http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp#asia

There is nothing you can do to expedite the process. You have to wait your turn like everyone else.

But i read it said 21 months is for 80% of cases, so there has to be some people that fall in the 20% category and they have to be doing something right or is there someway around it? I know it's tough and much longer process now due to so many fraud marriages, but Canadian gov't need to understand these fraud might be making up 20% or so, while the majority is legitimate and we all have to suffer.

Actually the 20% have processing times of greater than 21 months. 80% have processing times of 21 months or less.

The 21 months is not an average. It's how long it took CIC to complete processing for 80% of applications. This means that many do get through faster and some get through much faster.

Hey Trung,
If you and your wife get lucky, the interview is waived and the waiting time is surely shorter. Normally, any where between 6 to 10 months from the day Singapore VO receives your file, you will hear good news of the interview being waived. If it takes longer than that, there's a good possibility that your file is in the queu for the interview and your wife has to wait another year or so. This is "normally" how Singapore VO reviews and processes applications for Vietnamese citizens. I'm just giving you advice based on my own experience and others on this forum that I know. There are always exceptions and what Singapore VO would do is unpredictable... :)
As for DNA test that you're planning to do, I don't think you should because only when Singapore VO orders you to do so. They have their own designated clinic and medical practioner(s) in VN and will tell you to go there in stead of your own. You can inform them when your baby is born to update your file. Going home for the birth of your baby is a great idea and you can use it as further proof of your relationship with your wife.
Good luck and hope for the best!

Hello Trung,

My timeline is similar to your and we both have the same situation, my baby was born in April and I had consulted the Consulate General of Canada Immigration about the DNA test, they told me not necessary unless Singapore VO or Proof of Canadian Citizenship Citificate ask for it. Stevent is right they have to designated to their certify lab I think (IOM) to complete your DNA test.

When you log on your ECAS what status it show?

My status is Application Received as of Jan 24th, 2012. So I guess they still have yet to touch my application.

Also, I am planning to file the citizenship application for my daughter here in Viet Nam, would I need to obtain a birth certificate before I go to the Canadian consulate OR could I just bring the birth proof straight from the hospital without applying for a birth certificate?

Hi Trung,
24 January 2012 is the time ur application received in Canada or SIngapore office?
Im in Vietnam too. My husband lives in Regina. We applied our docs on 13 June 2012 and Today my husband got confirm that he is approved to sponsor me and docs on way to Singapore.
I research CIC website and forums. It said it takes from 6-22 months for process. But hope it will quicker.

Oh! so it took you almost 1 year for process.
Not bad!
But why they asked you medical then? I thought u had to attach it with application since u apply it.

Hello to all,

Very sorry I haven't had a chance to be on the forums to update everyone.

The past 6-7 months has been hectic for me, as my brother had an accident while I was in VN tending to my daughter's birth and had to fly back right away and take care of the funeral etc...

Most up to date news I received from Singapore is that they have just received my applications as of July, 2012 and I guess 24 January 2012 is the time my application was received in Canada according to the status when i logged in. They also told me that they have yet to received my Right of Permanent Residence Fee, which at this moment my lawyer is paying that off for me. Now I read somewhere on the forums, it said that when they request Right of Permanent Residence Fee that mean my application is near the end, is this true? Also, why hasn't Client Application Status changed? It still shows as Application Received as of Jan 24th, 2012.

Anyone has had similar situation?

P.S Baby was born in Ho Chi Minh City and btw how much do you all paid for Right of Permanent Residence?

Sorry to hear about your brother's accident.

The status on ECAS is not that accurate, if you ask to pay your Right of Permanent Residence Fee that mean SVO is currently working on your file. The fee is $490 for each applicant. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp#pay-fee

Congratulation for new born Baby!!

For your baby there are few steps you must do to get her temporary passport/facilitation visa. Let me know if you want to know.

Cheers,
