Sponsoring my spouse without an income (because he supports me)

Hi everyone, I really need some help concerning my sponsorship application.

Here is my situation: I am going to sponsor my husband to Canada who is a student in the US, under family class. The problem is, I do not have an income and haven't had one in over a year. The thing is, my husband supports ME, and if he gets his PR and moves to Canada, he will actually be the one supporting me with HIS money (he has sufficient funds because his government supports him [he is originally from the Middle East]). Whenever he comes to visit he stays with me in my dad's house and he gets food and shelter, but he takes care of me and our son. Our situation is a bit difficult since he is living and studying in the US and I am studying in Canada, but he is still supporting me, paying for my education, clothes, etc. I will be graduating in April 2014. Also, when he moves here in the future, we will be living in my dad's house for maybe a few months, and then move to our own place.

My question is, will I be able to sponsor my husband without any income? Can graduating soon help (still want to start the application ASAP, though)? What can I show? Can my father's income help? Can anyone give me any suggestions?

I appreciate all your help!

Hey,

for spouse sponsorship, there is no income requirement. What CIC wants to see if that you have a plan as a family and are not likely to go on welfare.

So : in your case, get a letter from your father stating that you're currently staying at his house with your son, and that your husband can stay there until you get a place on your own, and that he is willing to support you until you can establish yourself as a family. Show how you've been living so far - what money your husband sends, and how that will not stop ( if it's money from his own government) when he moves to Canada.

Explain how his skills and current education will make him employable in Canada, and how you intend to look for work and what type of position you are aiming for. If your husband has some money saved up - show proofs of that as well. Your father can not be a co-sponsor etc. - there is no such thing for spouse sponsorship - but if he can write a letter stating that he is willing to support you and your husband if needed, it will help. It has no legal value - you're still the one who will be responsible for your husband - but it will help convince CIC that you will not go on welfare.

You can sponsor your husband now - no need to wait until you graduate.

Good luck,
Sweden
