I am living in UK and got my Canadian PR in 2008, I am now moving to Canada. I got married in Dec 2008 and want to sponsor my spouse to Canada. He is living in UK but is an Indian citizen. Can you please advise me if I need to be in a job in Canada to sponsor him? I have been working in UK, can I show my 12 months income in UK and my savings to sponsor him?

Your reply will be much appreciated. Hope to get some suggestions soon.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for coming abck to me so quick. Really appreciate your response. There is something that I saw on the CIC website which confused me totally. I have pasted it hear

Sponsorship of a spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner or dependent child living outside Canada — Part 1: The sponsor’s guide (IMM 3900)
Tables and charts
Quebec Income Scale, 2009
Effective from January 1 to December 31, 2009
Sponsors (guarantors) are presumed to be able to satisfy their undertaking if in the last 12 months they have had gross income from Canadian sources equal to the SUM of the amount shown in Table 1 and the amount in Table 2 below. These amounts are indexed each year.
Table 1 - Basic Income Required by Sponsor to Meet Basic Needs of Own Family
Total Number of Family Members Basic Annual Income Required
1 C$20,584
2 C$27,787
3 C$34,306
4 C$39,455
5 C$43,913
The gross annual income is increased by C$4,457 for each additional dependant.

It clearly states income from canadian sources....So does this not apply atall for spousal sponsorships??
Also I have to show the proof of funds to support my spouse, so can that come from my earnings in UK and doesnt have to be from Canada?

Ok, first when you post a quote from somewhere, it's very helpful to post the actual link to the document so I don't have to look for it myself but here you go, page 7 bottom part: This is one of the conditions to sponsor

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3900E.pdf said:
you have an income that is at least equal to the minimum necessary income, the amount of which is published yearly by the Canadian government.
You will have to provide us with documents that show your financial resources for the past 12 months and prove you are financially able to sponsor members of the family class. You may solicit the help of a co-signer (must be your spouse or common-law partner). If you reside in Quebec, see also Sponsors living in Quebec.
This condition does not apply if you are sponsoring only
· your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent children, or
· your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner whose dependent children have no
children of their own, or
· your dependent child who has no children of his or her own.
So as said before, you don't have to meet income requirements to sponsor a spouse.

Suin,

This condition does not apply if you are sponsoring only
· your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent children, or
· your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner whose dependent children have no
children of their own, or
· your dependent child who has no children of his or her own.

The children (dependants) are included with the spouse, you dont need a certain amout of income for them unless they have children of there own :)
