thought I wouldn't need to ask any question, but I have one now.
I got a letter from local immigration office saying I have a landing interview scheduled.

we plan to drive to the border this weekend or so.
so can I flagpole land before interview or the interview is must-do?

Thank you again .
Hmmm, interesting. Did you schedule that interview? I wouldn't think that would be necessary if you flagpole.

Was on the CIC website today looking to see if they had gotten around to processing my sponsorship/application.

On the website, it says they are now processing sponsorship applications received on May 19, 2015. They received mine on May 15, 2015.

After putting in my Receipt number and information, there is still no information about my sponsorship approval. Should I be concerned, or is this business as usual?

Thanks.

I wouldn't be too concerned at this point. It sometimes takes a while before the status of your application gets updated in ECAS.

Hi folks,

It has been a while since I have logged on. I hope everyone is doing well. My wife and I are settling down nicely, we have been in country for over a year now.

A couple of questions for you all:

1.) When are moving away from the original address listed on my wife's permanent residency records for the first time. How do we go about changing her address in the system? We are based out of Edmonton - is this a matter of going to a government office somewhere and changing her address, or can this be done online.

2.) If my wife goes on vacation (for a couple weeks), all she needs to do is bring along her passport (Korean) and her PR Card (Canadian)? She will just have to show those 2 items to an airport immigration officer, and all will be well?

3.) My wife's passport (Korean) doesn't expire until like 2019. Does this make her PR Card valid until then? I read somewhere that the first 2 years are critical for my wife's PR. As in, she has to be IN Canada for a large majority of the time, but after that, we could choose to move back to Korea (if we wanted to).

Thanks again, any information will be helpful!

1) I don't think you have to do anything as far as I know. I'm looking back to when I landed and became a PR. I didn't inform CIC when I moved since then. She'll update CIC of her address when she applies to renew her PR card 4 years from now

2) Yup. Passport and PR card. That is all she needs.

3) Her PR card should have an expiry date on it. The date should be roughly 5 years from her landing date. If you applied to sponsor your wife after October 25, 2012, then yes the first 2 years are critical... in that you must be living together for those first two years (Condition 51). But it could be anywhere, not necessarily in Canada. As long as it is together.

Hi there

I have a question in regards to the request for photos/appendix a.

I'm sponsoring my wife who is Korean. We received an email in April to send scanned copies of her passport, appendix a, and passport photos.

We sent all of those and haven't heard anything back since then. I read somewhere that someone emailed the passport scans and sent the photos by courier to Manila.

It's been 3 months since I sent the email. I did email them to inquire and they just told me that your application is in process.

Should I send the photos now? I hope this doesn't jeopardize our application. The email they sent me wasn't clear about that. They just simply asked for scanned copies to be emailed to them.

Appreciate any advice.

Thank you

Yes, they need the originals of the photos. Send them off ASAP by courier if possible. You might also want to consider emailing the VO and telling him you've done so.

Scans of the other two items were fine.

Just a question, regarding taxes etc.

A while ago, CRA wanted to see evidence of my marriage or whatever to see if I qualified for some rebates etc. Fair enough, I sent them a copy.

However, my wife has applied for PR via the outland process. CRA wants to know her SIN, which she doesn't have.

Am I correct in understanding she can't/won't have a SIN until she becomes a PR?

Thanks!

Correct. Just tell CRA she is just a visitor at this point and doesn't have a SIN.

Thank you. I will send them asap.

I didn't see that in the instructions they emailed to us. But I should have questioned it more.

I guess Murphy's Law is in full swing today.

I have a question:

We applied as outland, yet my paperwork was sent back today requesting the form IMM5285, which only applies if you are applying as inland. Looking at the form, we filled out something similar but for those that are applying as outland. So bizzare that they would request this. Calling CIC (and finally talking to someone) they said to write a cover letter, which I will gladly do explaining the situation, but now I am all paranoid.

Does the fact that my wife is now in Canada (as a visitor) mean we can only apply as inland? Are we now exempt from applying as outland because of this? It was my understanding that this would not be the case.

Very strange. You're right. You would have completed IMM5490 which is the equivalent form for an outland application. Did they send the whole package back to you?

No. You can still apply outland.

Yes, we filled out the IMM5490 completely with additional papers and pictures etc, so there shouldn't be any reason for them to ask for IMM5285.

Good to know I can still apply outland. Ugh, guess I have to go back into the queue since I forgot to sign IMM008....but not before I send them a polite cover letter with the rest of my package.

Pro tip: Always sign your documents.

My wife's status on ECAS has changed to Decision Made! We did not receive an email asking for pictures though, which seems to be pretty common. However we were requested in May to send Manila a copy of Appendix A.

Any chance the Decision Made could be negative? Trying not to get too excited until I see the hard copy COPR in my hands...
