I'm assuming that your husband is your sponsor and you are the principal applicant. I'm also assuming that by "early of Jan" you mean early January 2014.

You do have a UCI number, CIC just hasn't given it to you yet. You can get it by calling CIC and asking for it. Then you can log into ECAS with your UCI number, name and date of birth and see what the status of your application is. You will not get any information about the status of your application if you use your husband's UCI number, name and date of birth. So, call CIC and ask for your UCI number.

If your file was transferred to Manila just a few weeks ago, it's unlikely ECAS will show anything other than "Application Received" at this point, if it's in their system yet. Your ECAS status will probably stay at "Application Received" for the next 5-6 months at which point you should get an email or letter from Manila updating the status of your application and/or asking for some additional information or documents. That email/letter will include your UCI number. Hope that helps.
thank you so much

Hi Seoulcanada!

Only the tracking... I tracked down a Fedex here in Daegu, and sent it as fast as I could ~ "Tania" signed for it in Mississauga but i have NOT received AOR yet! (looks like that ranges between 2 weeks to 5 weeks, from reading this forum)

Let me know when you get your AOR, I'd imagine I'd be a week behind you then! (or so I assume :)

Hi everyone!

I don't want to vere off topic here too much, as this really doesn't have to do with immigration or residency...

But... does anyone have any good links / hook-ups / recommendations for shipping large items back to the motherland (from Korea)

We are pretty much selling all our furniture with the exception of our bed and about 20 boxes of personal items. So we are looking for a cargo container-ish size - any help would be great!

Thanks!

I used Korea Shipping Co., Ltd. They were pretty good. There was a discussion about various shipping companies way back in this thread somewhere. If you search around there, you'll find a few others.

Both Korea2Canada and I had about the same timeline. We both heard from Manila about 5 months after file transfer, so you should be coming up soon.

Just to confirm,

I sent our package via FedEx from Korea, to:

2 Robert Speck Parkway,
Suite 300
Mississauga, ON
L4Z 1H8

This is correct, right?

On tracking, I have "Tania" as receiving our package... hopefully she threw it on top of the pile ;)

Man, I'm going to be the worst wait-er, ever haha

My wife, son and I will be traveling to Toronto this week to visit my grandmother who is sick. CIC Mississauga received our application for permanent residency on January 17, 2014. So here is the question, should we write a letter to CIC explaining why my wife went to Canada? Does it matter? Does CIC need to know?

We plan on moving to Canada permanently in July, so we plan on using this as a bit of a practice run going through immigration and asking the agent in Toronto some questions about what we should do in July. We are working under the assumption that her PR will not have been granted by July. Has anyone asked immigration for a dual purpose Visa when entering Canada while waiting for PR to be granted?

One other quick question, how can I add the dates regarding my visa application below my name like most people have? I looked under profile, but couldn't see anything.

Thanks in advance!

In general, visa-exempt applicants can come and go from Canada as they please during PR processing. CIC doesn't care.

We plan on moving to Canada permanently in July, so we plan on using this as a bit of a practice run going through immigration and asking the agent in Toronto some questions about what we should do in July. Only advice I can give is NEVER use words like "moving", "permanently" or "living" when talking to the immigration officer. Until she gets PR, she is only a temporary visitor. You can explain to the officer that there is a PR app in progress and would like to remain in Canada while the processing is finished, but you need to be prepared to leave Canada if can't get a visitor extension and processing is not finished yet. So you should always have a return airplane ticket dated for less than 6 months later, just in case they ask.

We used Hyundai shipping (they have several shipping departments though, so you want to get the door to door service that they have for people who are moving internationally).

They were fantastic. They came to our house, measured all the items we said we would bring, gave us an estimate, then came by with a truck and 2 movers, packaged everything up in thick carboard boxes and packing material (including many glass items) and then shipped them to our door (we had to wait a while without furniture as it takes longer than the flight) then unpacked everything and put it all in place. All for just over 2 grand (that was all our clothes, dishes, my bike, our sofa, our bed and all sorts of other items). They said they could have taken everything in our place for 4 grand (including the fridge), but as the voltage is different here we opted to leave our appliances. The final cost was very close to the estimate too even after we added all sorts of things and not one item was lost or broken.

Very stress free and considering the cost of things here, it was well worth it to ship most of stuff than it was to start all over again, even the older items like my 10 year old bike were worth shipping.

And they will likely ask. That was all they were worried about when we went through immigration here. They didn't care about our marriage certificate, our records showing we had started the permanent residency process...nothing. And you shouldn't tell them you are planning to live in Canada...as juvenile as it seems. I looked the officer right in the face and told her that and she gave me a scolding...I just looked at her and told her we were married, had 2 kids and any other assumption would be silly...she just looked angry. So don't bother being honest.

The best option for a ticket is to get the expensive ones that are fully refundable. It seems stupid, but it doesn't cost you any money and it gets the job done without any hassles. We just got a ticket to Seattle.

Thanks earthbound14!

Did they ding you on customs on the other end or was that all included in the price?

We are essentailly bringing back a king size bed, clothing, a few keepsakes, some books, and other personal stuff. Also selling our heavy appliances due to the voltage difference (and a not bad resale value here!)

Also, I'm sad to see that you can't ship back booze (always knew you couldn't through mail, but thought maybe massive shipping companies might have some loophole)... because I have quite the collection from my travels around Asia. Oh well, I'll survive haha

Do they base it on size / weight / value. Anyways, appreciate this lead. (also thanks bartjones, for your recommendation) I'll get the wife on Naver to track down their details. We'll need our stuff picked up / shipped from Daegu to Kelowna come Fall!
