Sorry to double post! He sent off the background check and organised the medical for the 17th August. I assume we can't send anything off until we have a little slip back from her? We've filled in all the forms, just need to finish attaching the evidence, and its aggravating thinking they could be looking at it right now! Once he gets back, would he be able to send it straight off or does he need to wait for a letter or confirmation from the DMP to say hes all clear or not?

And again, does the interview always happen, and when would we hear about it? Would it be possible for him to come to Canada to wait for it to all go through, because obviously if hes called for an interview he'd need to fly back for it? Hence we are wondering, if we got that interview done then he could come here and we could be together.

I assume customs wouldn't have a problem with us telling them we are married and that he is coming over while waiting for PR to come through as we want to be together right? Also this final interview that I keep hearing about, again, does it always happen and where is it/who needs to go?

Hope you can help us, thanks in advance.

The DMP will give him a form, and send a form to the gov't. Once he is done the medical, you can send the application in - you don't have to wait for the results.
And again, does the interview always happen, and when would we hear about it? They don't always request an interview. If there is one, it is fairly late in the process. He can come to Canada to visit you before and/or after the interview - he's visa-exempt, so can visit for up to 6 months, and you can get this extended.

He should just say he is coming to visit you. If the border official asks for more info, then yes he can explain, but they may not ask.
The interview will be in London. Only the applicant needs to go.

Hey, thanks for the answers! You guys have been so helpful!

Two quick questions, I assume that final interview always happens regardless and its mandatory as thats how you confirm your PR right?

And the other question is, my husband spoke to the DMP yesterday and organised an appointment, and she said to bring 3 passport photos, and the hospital (doing the chest x-ray) said to bring 2 more. Is this separate from the 8 photos the application asks for, or is that what 5 of them are needed for? He wasn't quite sure. Oh and does anyone have any idea where the 8 identical photos could actually be done, the only place he could find for definite is in London, which is a good number of hours away, and he doesn't want to travel that far just to get a picture taken obviously.

The visa officer processing the file does not always need to interview the applicant. I think you mean the interview when the person lands in Canada, right? If so, then yes, when the foreign applicant first comes to Canada with his PR visa, an immigration official will interview him at the border. It is usually quite quick - they will not be grilling you about the bona fides of your marriage, in all likelihood, since that will have been decided already by the visa officer. They will ask for his new address in Canada, and if anything about his situation has changed.

Being as my husband wants to come over to Canada AFTER we send off the application and while it is underway (assuming he doesn't need to go back for an interview to verify our relationship, which I think is unlikely to be honest), would it be a problem; him staying in Canada throughout the application process, obviously he wouldn't be able to be interviewed at the border because he'd already be in Canada?

Thanks! :D

He can stay in Canada while the application is being processed. He will most likely have no trouble getting in, and can extend his stay if necessary. If they want to interview him, he'll have to go back to London, though.
Once he gets his PR visa, he will have to 'land' in Canada. If he is already in Canada, he still has to land, and will have a short interview with a border official then. He can just go out to the USA and return.

Regarding the photos. The guide states 5 recent photos are required for the medical. An additional 4 are required for CIC purposes and details of the requirements for these can be found in the Region Specific Guide for the UK.

DMP's seem to differ on how many photos they require, some seem to ask for 3, some ask for 4 but the guide itself says 5. The DMP my husband went to in the US asked for the 5. I guess go with what the DMP your husband is seeing asks for on that one.

Plus of course the 4 that go with your application.

This is the question I was trying to answer. Sorry for confusing you.

There are two sets of photos required for the application process. The guide states 5 recent photos for the medical part of the process. These would be the 3 that the DMP your husband is seeing has asked for plus 2 for the xray. The DMP that my husband saw also asked for 5 total. However, there have been previous posts where some DMPs have only asked for 3 or 4. Each one seems to process a bit differently.

In addition, there are 4 photos required for the application for CIC's purposes. The specifications for these can be found in the Region Specific Guide (Part III). Here is the link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3901e.pdfe

Hope this clears up any confusion.

Hi,

Thanks for the clarification, only the link you posted also says that eight photographs are needed? This is where I'm confused, I know they all need to be the same, and that I'd need 5 for the DMP and the hospital, but you say I need 4 for the forms themselves, thats 9 though not 8? Sorry if I'm missing something blatantly obvious here.

the 8 photos are separate from the photos for the medical. So you actually need 13 total.

The DMP will keep the photos you give them, and attach them to various parts of your medical results, then you send in 8 with your application.

Hi Sarah,

Please excuse my lack of a brain :D. First, I can't count. Second the number of photos for US (my husbands Region Specific guide) and yours for the UK differ. (so I can't read either).

You are right, we were required to provide 4 for the application and 5 for the DMP which equals 9.

Further I just rechecked your Region Specific Guide asks for 8 for the application which is 13 in total.

I really apologize.

Hey guys,
Just to give you an update, medical is coming up and all the forms are filled, just printing out photos. Recently my husband had his immigration photos taken, however while reading back through the specifications it states it wants a solid white background. Well the back to his is more grey, I know this may seem pedantic and maybe its just us being paranoid, but are they going to send it back because of that? It was simply the color of the backdrop. The rest of the specifications are fine (same untouched negative, measurements etc).

If the photos arent adequate they'll let you know. For the application part i dont think its as important as the PR card part. If you have to resubmit there's a form on the CIC website that details the photo specs give that to the photographer
