Hello,

Could you please tell me how I can sponsor my Egyptian husband to come to Canada? We are planning on living there as soon as he gets his PR papers approved. In the meantime, we are planning on visiting Nova Scotia with my newborn son in 2 months (May 2014). The question is, is it better for us to apply from Cairo, Egypt or from Nova Scotia? We currently live in Egypt... and Shall he in the meantime apply for a temporary visitor visa so that we can travel in May?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

You can only file an outland application if you are living outside Canada. So, it doesn't matter where you apply from, as the application will be processed in Egypt.

Surely Zardoz you have made a mistake in typing that sentence? You can apply outland even if you are living in Canada. True enough Nina 884's application will be processed in Egypt whether she is living in Canada or in Egypt. So the second sentence is correct

No, the emphasis is that you can't file inland, if you are living outside Canada. They stated that they are living in Egypt but will be visiting NS, not living there. Maybe I should have phrased it "If you are living outside Canada, you can only file an outland application".

I also have another question, if you have any information about... I have been living in Egypt for about 9 years now. First I moved here for university then got married and currently employed here. My parents used to file my tax papers every year but I did not include my salary that I take from my current job. The last time I visited Canada was in 2009.

In the Sponsor Document Checklist, under item 17, it asks for an original copy of "Option-C" of mine and my co-signer last Notice of Assessment for the most recent taxation year. How can I get that, if I am not living in Canada?.

And also do I have to have a Co-Signer? and could that co-signer be my Egyptian husband that I am going to be sponsoring?

I am sorry, I have a third question as well...

It also asks in the Document Checklist to provide proof for intending on living in Canada once they become permanent residents. I don't have any proof other than that my husband is currently apply for Dental Canadian Board to be certified to work in Canada and that my son (currently 6 months old) will be attending school there when he grows up. The only proof I can provide now, which I don't know if it would work, is that my parents and brother own a house in Halifax, NS and I was wondering if I can list it in the application under "Mortgage of Property" or if my parents agree to rent my their place during my stay then I can probably get a proof for "Property Rental Agreement" but for which dates shall I state in the agreement?

I am sorry, I am just lost on how to start the application. I really appreciate your help.

You don't need an Option-C if you are not a tax-resident of Canada. Just add a note to explain and supply whatever the Egyptian equivalent is instead. A co-signer is not permitted with spousal sponsorship applications. Just ignore any references to co-signers.

This is often the most challenging part of the application for a Canadian sponsor living outside Canada. Just give as much information as possible about your plans, including what you are planning in preparation. If your parents are offering to support and house you, get a formal letter from them to that effect. Just be honest and clear. Show how you intend to sever ties with Egypt etc.

Sorry Zardoz for bothering you again... but I have a question, that you might be able to help me with.

Now I just purchased my and my husbands ticket to visit Halifax on May 1st, 2014 and I haven't still submitted my sponsor documents to the Canadian embassy in Cairo. Shall he apply for a temporary resident (visitor) visa or shall I got through the sponsor paperwork and then get him to apply for a permanent visa? I am so confused with the whole process.

Thank you for your help once again.

The sponsor paper work and applicant paper work must be submitted together. In other words, both you and your husband's part of the application must be submitted as one package or it will be returned as incomplete. You need to send the package to the Mississauga, ON office - not the Canadian embassy in Cairo.

You may find that as soon as you submit your application to CPC-M, the chances of obtaining a TRV start to reduce. You may be better off applying for the TRV first. This is because there is a suspicion, often well founded, that the applicant may overstay in Canada on the back of the pending application.
