Hello Guys,

My mother is a widow. She is with us in Canada on a Visitor Visa. Can I sponsor my mother for Permanent Residency? We are 4 members in our family. My wife and 2 toddler sons.

Unfortunately I am in low income. My annual salary is $31,450/-. And I guess for a 4 member family, I have to have at least $47,000/- to sponsor my mother.

However, my wife is getting $23,820/- annually as AISH (Social Benefit, not an earned Income) and $14,748/- annually as child care benefit (again social benefit). So can we add these as an Income and would we be eligible for sponsoring my mother?

If not, what would be the next best option?

Thanks in Advance

You need to have made at least $60271 in 2018, and slightly less in 2017 and 2016. I don't know if social benefits are included as income.

The income requirement for 2019 will likely be higher.

You have to meet LICO for 5 people - not 4. You must include your mother in the family calculation. For 2018, that's $68,358. For 2017, that's $67,400.
