Hello all,

Im going crazy here, although just about to send off our completed perminant resident application for my Indonesian husband! yay but scary.

The process time is 31 months!

Does anyone know how likely it would be for him to succesfully apply for a temperary resident while we are waiting?

Thank you! x :-\

It can be quite difficult to get a TRV approved when someone has a spouse in Canada. Having said that - you can certainly try. Include as much evidence as you can that demonstrates your husband has strong ties to his home country.

Many regret to don't try sooner....
because they were afraid of applying because it seems to be a very low rate of success for
the approval.... but as I said, they regret because when they tried they succeeded...

Have seen the comment a few times...

Then, provide as many proof that his stay will be temporary..

like information about the cost of insurance, maybe a quote will be enough,
for the time that you want him to stay... lets say ... 6 months...

Also if you can get a refundable airplane ticket for the period of time that you want him to stay
will be very important...

But don't buy a Airplane ticket that you can not get the money back, like is the case in most of the
tickets you buy on line...

If you can meet him at the airport in USA, I understand that the tourist visa can be purchased at the port of entry
if entering by land, but you can call the nearest border to find out.
Normally they will not deny the tourist visa of a spouse if entering by land....
But again, I am not an immigration officer to decide who will enter or who will not...
Just want to let you know of alternative options that you have.

Good luck

It is certainly worth a try. I know of a few people whose spouses have obtained TRV's while waiting for a PRV. This was done in the context of the spouse coming to Canada for a visit of a month or so. This was NOT done as a way to hang out in Canada and wait for a PRV to arrive.

Two of the things that helped make the application successful:
1. Wait until your sponsorship is approved.
2. Provide lots of evidence that your spouse will be returning to their country after a visit.
