Hi, I am new to this forum but have been reading a lot of the threads for information.
I am marrying my fiance on November 8th '08 (in Jamaica) and would like to sponsor him to come to Canada. As stated in the topic, he is a Jamaican citizen and I am a Canadian citizen (born there) and have been living with him for the past year (dating for 2 years). We plan to get our marriage certificate within days and have been doing all of the applications, about to get the medical and police certificates, so that everything is in order and as of the day we receive the marriage certificate, we can print off some pics from the wedding and send the whole package off.
Ideally I would like for him to be in Canada with me because I am moving back up to Canada in January to start getting settled.
I have a ton of questions, but will reduce them to a few concise ones:
Basically the main goal is to have him in Canada with me as soon as possible and able to work.
1. Would it be faster to do an In-land application (with him entering Canada as a visitor and then us applying that way) or Outside Canada application? Even if In-land takes longer for the PRC we would just want him to be able to work as soon as possible.
a)- What is the timeline for In-land vs. Out-land (supposedly 4-11months) for a Jamaican? Please note we will be living in the Greater Toronto Area when we move to Canada.
2. Would I even be able to do an In-Canada application since I haven't been living in Canada since June 2006?
a)- if I did an In-Land application and stated that I was living in Jamaica for the past year, would that affect us being able to submit an In-land application? Would I have to wait until I moved up in January to submit the application?
3. Regarding the police certificate; we understand that the Jamaican government sends the police certificate directly to the Kingston processing office? How is this affected if we do the application In-Land, and when should we have it done so that it isn't sitting there for too long before the application is received?
a) Also he went to university in Texas and would need a police record from there; how do we obtain that?
ANY ADVICE OR RECOMMENDATIONS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.
It all seems so particular and confusing!
I just want to make sure I have everything perfect so that it can be done as fast as possible.
THANKS!
