Sponsoring dependent children who are in Canada

I am starting to do the sponsorship process for my kids, and 2 main doubts have me paused on it.

The easiest one first: Even though it's not mentioned in the checklist, when I go to the online application it shows:

"IMM 5562 (required) Supplementary Information - Your Travels"

as required. Is this just an error in the checklist?

Second one a bit harder. I need to complete the background declaration it seems even though they're minors, and asking me about last 10 years, which since they're 5 and 8 is not too eventful. However, my doubt is because it asks occupation and addresses in that period, and as we came in April 2021, for the last almost 2 years they have of course been with us here in Canada.

In retrospect, I understand it was a mistake to not renew their status every 6 months (They have visitor visas), as we were told it wouldn't really matter too much. But now I see this could have an impact being they're supposed to have address in our home country? (and technically on their documents they do).

What would you advise I enter here? They have been from 2014 and 2017 respectively, and until 2021/04 just "being babies" in our home country, and the eldest did 1-2 years of school until we left for Canada.

Now since 2021, both have been students here, and living with us in Canada.

Since you have to put all the truthful information of course, I would have to enter Canadian addresses in that section, as well as in the occupation section for studies.

But I am not sure how to exactly put this in the different forms, since some ask for current country of residence, etc. and I don't know if this should be actual/defacto or legal.

Appreciate the help.

Edit: adding some more information. We have an upcoming trip to our home country in March, and will be returning in April. Would it be better to hold off on applying until we come back, as they will have a "fresh entry" into the country, and I could maybe attach a letter to the application explaining that from Apr 21-Mar-23 they had stayed because we did not know we had to extend their status, but they have left and re-entered now?

I can't help with the first question.

For the second question, you need to be honest about where they were residing. So that would be Canada for the last two years. If any of the forms ask for status or something similar, then you should indicate Visitor for the period where they were in Canada with status and Out of Status for the period where they weren't. Regardless of when you apply, you should answer truthfully to any questions regarding their status for the period when they were out of status in Canada.

I can't advise if you should apply now or hold off until you're back.

Hi, thanks for replying!

Yes, I believe the address history section asks status, and Visitor is what I have been entering.

One extra doubt on this is where it asks (on the main form I believe) if you resided in other countries (I believe it says 6 months or more), and it clarifies you must have had legal status. I don't know if I should enter Canada anyway, or not because they technically only had legal status to reside for 6 months on their visitor visa?

Would it be best to consult with a lawyer? Or am I overanalyzing this for two small dependent kids? (Who ultimately I could claim H&C grounds for as they cannot be separated from their parents?)

I don't know. I'm not familiar enough with the current forms.
