I am a Canadian Citizen working in Abu Dhabi, UAE and intend to sponsor my dependent minor child currently aged around 16 years. There are few queries which require your valuable input:

1) Does the Visa Office required to cancel my UAE work / residence visa before stamping immigrant visa to my child
2) If my wife (house wife) also a Canadian citizen sponsors the child, even then the Visa Officer would require cancellation of my UAE work / residence visa
3) What is the average processing time considering it is intended to move to Canada at the end of school year in June/July
4) The validity of the visa is one year from the date of medical? Is extension possible to match with end of school year
5) Is it possible to sponsor the child from within Canada i.e. the child travels to Canada on a visit visa and we move there and sponsor him there. This will ensure that transition from here to Canada will be smooth considering school year end/start. But will the child be entitled to attend school or university?

Await your valuable input to plan accordingly. Thanks and regards. Ali

When and how did you and your wife acquire Canadian citizenship?

1. IRCC may or may not request it. It depends on the VO and what other proofs you submit to show you will be moving to Canada.

2. Same as above.

3. Expect the process to take at least around 8 months.

4. Yes, one year from the medical. No, IRCC will not extend it to match your plans.

5. There is no inland option to sponsor a child. If the child is visa-exempt or can get a TRV, s/he can come to Canada as a visitor while the sponsorship app processes. No guarantees but as the child of Canadian citizens, you should be able to enroll him/her in high school while the PR app is processing.

Thanks for such a valuable and succinct input. Appreciated. I understand that as per regulation it will be correct but what can be the logic that a child cannot be sponsored from within Canada while a spouse can be sponsored from within Canada by a Canadian Citizen, although both the cases fall in the same category.

Regards

That's just the way it is. Outland is the only option for child sponsorship.
