I am a Canadian citizen living in the USA. I have had one child in the USA and have another one due in September. I understand that since I was not born in Canada, my children have to apply for permanent residency as well as citizenship. I have a few questions about this process:

1. Can I apply for both children on the same application?
2. Which forms do I need to fill out if it is just for two children under 19?
3. Do I pay $475 for right to permanent residency only one time or do I have to pay that fees twice (once for each child)?
4. Can I apply for citizenship for them at the same time as I apply for residency?
5. Do I pay $100 for right of citizenship once for both children or $100 per child?
6. What other fees do I need to pay for this process?
7. I cannot call CIC from outside Canada. How else can I contact them for clarification of the application process?

Usually, at least with an adult, you have to be a PR three years before you apply for citizenship. Since you are getting your children in as PRs I don't think they can apply for citizenship immediately. More senior members can add to this. So you probably would have to wait on the right of citzenship but the fees would be for each child seperately so it'd be 475x 2. Unless you have the second child in Canada, then 'he's" Canadian by birth saving time and money. If you can afford medical costs or she is insured in Canada.

1. No. Neither child can be a dependent of the other. You must submit 2 completely separate apps with each child as a Principal Applicant.

2. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

3. You don't pay the RPRF for children. For each application, you need to pay the $75 Sponsorship fee and the $75 Principal applicant under 19 fee.

4. No. You can apply for their citizenship as soon as they are PRs.

5. The fee is per child.

6. There are no other official fees, though there are associated costs such as the medical.

7. Have a family member or friend in Canada call.

There is no citizenship residency requirement for children of Canadian citizens.

It just seems silly to me to make them apply for both. Make the kids become PRs and then citizens at basically the same time as one pretty much nullifies the other. But then again, this is the government. ;) .
